Brewster Brothers Play Bob Dylan @ Showroom Room at The GC, Adelaide 24/2/2018

John and Rick…. The Brewster Brothers are best known as founding members of local hard rockers The Angles, who have taken their hellraising ways to stages Australia wide for 4 decades now. Taking a break from band duties, the Brewster Brothers were joined by Sam Brewster (son of John) and Nick Norton (which actually represents 4/5 of the current Angels line-up) to pay tribute to Bob Dylan.

With the venue having been set up with lines of tables, more reminiscent of a bingo hall than a rock venue it was pretty obvious that this was to be a more subdued evening of easy listening. The opening stanza, complete with the trademark harmonica, consisted of a series of more laid back folk inspired tunes including the epic stories of Desolation Row, crowd favourite Mr Tambourine Man, and the legendary Just Like A Woman.

Slowly but surely the tempo gradually lifted, as did the enthusiasm of the packed house, with tunes such as Its All Over Now Baby Blue, and All Along The Watch Tower and obvious closing track Like A Rolling Stone. With a standing ovation and calls for an encore the band proclaimed that was unfortunately the extent of their Dylan repertoire, but left the crowd with a final thrill by returning to stage to perform one of the Brewster Brothers own tracks Blue Blood.

By the end of the night the crowd had been treated to about 80mins of flawless musicianship that fans of both Bob Dylan and the Brewster Brothers could celebrate. The show also gave a greater insight into a couple of local musicians that many would only associate with the pub rock scene, although unfortunately it was the one and only chance to see them perform this festival season.
