Eden @ The Gallery at The Courtyard of Curiosities, Adelaide 20/3/2026
Having its world premiere at the Adelaide Fringe, Eden is the latest production from the very talented Kate Gaul and Siren Theatre Co.. The play follows two teenage girls, Kit and Dan, as they navigate life in a small Tasmanian country town, exploring confronting themes including trauma, domestic violence, adolescent sexuality, and life-altering decisions. Both characters come from dysfunctional family environments, and their friendship becomes their support network and emotional lifeline as they attempt to make sense of the world around them.
Set in the Gallery Room at the The Courtyard of Curiosities, the staging was simple yet highly effective, allowing the actors to fully utilise the space and engage closely with the audience. Performers Karinne Kanaan and Lara Lightfoot were captivating from start to finish, delivering flawless and charismatic performances that carried the emotional weight of the story. They cleverly switched between multiple characters using minimal props, lighting, and sound, creating seamless transitions that were both clear and engaging.
The performance was both captivating and thought-provoking, particularly in its exploration of narrow minded small-town thinking and the pressures faced by young people growing up in isolated communities. The audience was taken on an emotional rollercoaster as the story unfolded — a coming-of-age narrative blended with moments where life felt stranger than fiction.
The show is an evocative, moving, and highly entertaining production that balances humour, darkness, and tenderness with impressive skill. It is a powerful piece of theatre that stays with you long after the performance ends.
