Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Macseal, Suzi, Townhouse @ Jive, Adelaide 24/5/2026
New York indie rock band Macseal and punk rock counterparts Prince Daddy & The Hyena are on tour of Australia for the very first time which included a stop here in Adelaide at Jive. Four bands on this line up gave punters incredible value for money for their hard earned which also included emerging indie-folk and punk-rock artist Suzi from Melbourne and Adelaide locals Townhouse. The finely tuned algorithm was in sync beckoning the faithful to turn out in numbers for what was an awesome night. It was loud, it was rowdy and it was a good darn time. Almost like a mini-New Bloom Festival.
Adelaide locals Townhouse are fast emerging as one of those bands to keep an eye out. They continue their upward trajectory with an entertaining live set. Suzi is a great performer who is quietly building in confidence and I’m sure bigger things are ahead for her. The band really gel well together and combined with songs that are relatable she brought a great vibe to Jive. I Don’t Understand How Planes Work to songs about crippling anxiety in I’m Pretty Sure Everyone Hates Me to songs about dating the set covered a whole range of emotional feels. It’s No Competition is gold and Centrelink Summers is a classic gem to finish the set. Hopefully there’s a Suzi headline tour around the corner sometime soon.
The beauty of the co-headline tour is not knowing until the day who will be going on last making it essential to get there early to make sure you don’t miss out. Macseal were fantastic with Jive being the perfect venue for it. For a band that has been around for ten years it definitely feels like their time is now with two albums and a string of EP’s to their credit. With forty-five minutes or so to play with their wasn’t much time for banter letting the music do all the talking kicking off with a+b followed by Your Door. It was a “hello Radelaide” then continuing with the energy they started with on Lucky For Some.
Looking tour weary the words were forgotten on Always Hazy and with a reset they nailed it. The crowd were enthusiastic and why wouldn’t you be watching this band go through their paces. The band were tight and what stood out is the chemistry who genuinely look like they enjoy playing music together. Highlights included the likes of 5:45 AM (Not Fun), Cats, Easily Undone, crowd requested Going Away topped off with set closer Next To You.
Prince Daddy & The Hyena played a turbo charged set whipping up the chaos turning the downstairs floor in to the sweaty mosh pit for the entire set. Not big talkers either between songs letting one feed on to the next which drove the chaos and mayhem. The set list, a torn piece of paper, cover all bases and one for the diehard fans. Opening with 24-03-04_Birthday_B4 the set moved at a frenetic pace knocking over Big Box Store Heart, Jesus Fucking Christ, Adult Summers (PART 2) and Fuckin’ A. Taking a quick breather someone yelled out “why did it take so long to get here?” with singer Kory Gregory quick witted response saying “we had to swim here”. Pretty good comeback I’d say!
Blink and you’ll miss it! That’s how fast their set motored along. There are some absolute belters in their kit bag including the likes of A Random Exercise in Impermanence (The Collector) and Sure Could (A Random Exercise in Life-Altering Party Fouls). With the foot to the floor there was no let up spurring the crowd in to getting a circle pit going which was quite the sight. Curly Q and Pinch Me were obvious highlights and I don’t think it was the intention to do an encore even conferring on stage after their set on which one to reward this crowd for their energy and enthusiasm finishing with Slip. This was a quality bill and I definitely got my fill of live music to kick off the weekend.
