Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks @ Magic Mirror Spiegeltent, Adelaide 28/2/2017

Evergreen Aussie rocker Ross Wilson returned to Adelaide as part of this year’s Fringe with his solo band, The Peaceniks, to rock the Magic Mirror Spiegeltent in The Garden of Unearthly Delights.

You could be forgiven for thinking Ross hasn’t aged in the last 20 or so years, his smooth voice and youthful look belie the fact that he is actually 69, as he continues to prowl the stage like a man half his age, playing guitar and harmonica, between belting out his many hits in his unmistakable voice.

While there was a limit on the show’s length due to the quick turnaround of acts in the Spiegeltent, there was no shortage of hits, as we found ourselves treated to a broad selection of songs from Ross’ almost 50 year career!

Kicking off with Daddy Cool’s Come Back Again, Ross worked his way through a set of highlights from throughout his career, including Bed Of Nails, Rockabilly Women, Chemistry and Hi Honey Ho.  His cover of Howlin’ Wolfs Back Door Man was a highlight of the set, his bluesy and soulful voice enveloping the capacity crowd.

Other stand outs of the evening included Mondo Rock staples Cool World, State Of The Heart and Come Said The Boy, an announcement that the aforementioned band are planning to reform for some shows later in 2017 was met with applause. Ross’ brilliant rendition of I Come In Peace, previously covered by Joe Cocker, rocked all in attendance, while set closer Eagle Rock ended the night on a crowd pleasing high.
