Imminence, Inertia @ The Gov, Adelaide 13/10/2025
Imminence made quite the impression and made their presence felt when they played Good Things 2024. Returning less than a year later there was a sense of anticipation for this metalcore outfit from Sweden for what has been touted as “The Return Of The Black Tour”. Arguably they are indeed one of the hottest prospects going in the scene right now and having experienced this show first hand it is easy to see why fans are gravitating to this band. It might have been a Monday night but that did not support a full house turning out for one of those gigs that will be talked about for quite some time to come.
Inertia from Sydney has the coveted support slot and having seen them play a number of times of the last couple of years it is great to see them grow in stature making plenty of inroads themselves. They are fast proving that they to deserve the attention and adulation as they can definitely match it with the best of them and their short fire set at The Gov is right up there with the best of them. The crowd took a bit of coaxing early with front man Julian Latouche asking “is that the best you’ve got Adelaide” demanding more energy from them taking the lukewarm stage and adding fire and brimstone leaving the stage smouldering.
Ripping through Dying To Let You Go followed by Leviathan and Dominion. There wasn’t much time for banter letting the music do the talk but Latouche was full of admiration of Adelaide fans turning out early on a Monday night. There were plenty of great moments to come to tide fans over until next time with highlights including Second Shadow, Parallels and finishing on Lament with everyone lighting up The Gov with the mobile phone lights.
Imminence in short were incredible and made this experience more than just a gig, it was so much more than that. Even the word violincore was been coined with Imminence being very much at the forefront of this and pioneering this sound. There is something very cool about the violin being incorporated in to the genre fusing classical with metalcore to create something quite refreshing. The theatrical elements of the show are top shelf combined with the visuals and lighting added to the overall vibe and feel of the show. It was hard not to be absorbed by what was presented literally hanging off every note like everyone else.
It was clear we were experiencing something quite remarkable and that you couldn’t be a passive bystander here.
Right from Temptation it was literally a relentless barrage for the next eighty minutes whipping all sorts of emotions from the brutality of Desolation to the majestic and powerful Heaven Shall Burn. Beyond The Pale, wow, both two parts haunting yet cinematic with the crowd lifting and screaming every word to Death By A Thousand Cuts. Erase followed in much the same vain. There was no let up in energy or intensity and this band is very much the sum of all parts coming in to their own at different stages of the set. Right to the end the band had this by the scruff the neck with closing blows God Fearing Man and The Black serving the reminder “We are Imminence from Sweden”.
