The Nomadic Release Brand New Album ‘New Horizons’
A haunting yet hopeful exploration of love, loss and growth, the stirring new single Marie Antoinette out now from Sydney singer songwriter The Nomadic offers a sweeping glance into the artist’s upcoming sophomore album, with New Horizons out now. Helmed by singer-songwriter Rob Gaylard, The Nomadic sweeps in today with a glimmering and oscillating bundle of melancholy and optimism, with Marie Antoinette stylistically nodding to the likes of early Coldplay, Radiohead, Phosphorescent, The War On Drugs, The 1975 and The National, while also fostering The Nomadic’s introspective and immersive unique flair.
After relocating back to Sydney in 2022 following years as a regular fixture on the New York City indie rock scene, Gaylard’s original designs for his latest body of sonic work also grew alongside working with some high-profile local talent, with an army of collaborators from around the industry joining Gaylard to grow The Nomadic journey; and, to ultimately bring both Marie Antoinette and its broader album New Horizons to full-bodied life. Rob Gaylard aka The Nomadic tells Hi Fi Way more.
How has the build-up been leading up to the release of Marie Antoinette?
It has been super exciting! It is quite the process as you can imagine- from song writing, creation, production, and then release! Also super exciting that our whole album “New Horizons” is coming out now!
Was the process of making your single as challenging as you thought?
Not really! It is always exciting getting together with the Nomadic in the studio and brainstorming how to develop, arrange and execute the songs. Marie Antoinette came together as a slowish build up and then full band coming in at chorus and outro. It suited the general theme of melancholic loss and nostalgia!
Sonically, how would you describe your music?
The Nomadic blends elements of indie rock, alternative rock and Americana, marked by emotional depth and introspective themes. Some of the songs are Anthemic and Expansive, some melodic and atmospheric- with layered guitars, full baselines and subtle synths. Hopefully the lyrics are somewhat introspective!
Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
Definitely the early Britpop phase- Oasis, Blur, Radiohead, The Verve, Coldplay. In later years Americana Rock- The National, Phosphorescent, The War on Drugs.
Best piece of advice you have been given?
Enjoy the Journey!
What is the “The Nomadic” life story?
I lived in five different countries before the age of ten. I went to high school and Uni in the UK, then joined the United Nations where I worked in Somalia, Kenya, The Sudan, Afghanistan, Israel and Palestine and Indonesia. It is definitely this experience that has shaped my music and songwriting! When I relocated to New York in 2012, I started to do more and more with my music- producing first Album “My Mind is Racing” in 2022 before coming back to Austalia in Feb 2022. “New Horizons” was produced with Dan Frizza between September – December 2022.
Are you looking to tour more broadly?
Yes! Touring will be on the cards in 2025! Starting with Sydney/ NSW and then Australia more broadly!
What’s next for you?
The Release of New Horizons on December 12 and then playing live in 2025!
Who’s your favourite Adelaide artist/group at the moment?
I love MANE, they remind me a bit of Florence and the Machine! Placement are great, awesome vocals and cool instrumentation. Busseys and Townhouse are also great!
