The Party @ The Spiegeltent in The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Adelaide 22/2/2023

The Party is anything but little, we’re talking a modern version of Baz Luhrmann’s lavish film adaptation of the Great Gatsby. Think camp costumes, epic group dance numbers and an overload of anthemic party music.

As soon as you enter the Spiegeltent you are greeted by the incredible theatre set design exploding with colour and bold aesthetics. The cast were adorned with extravagant costumes while scattered throughout the venue to provide some pre party fun.

The show runs for 120 minutes including a brief intermission. The first half of the show was a mish mash of music, dance and slap stick comedy with no linear storyline, just what you’d expect if you were in fact attending a real life party of absolute debauchery.

The second half of the show started strong and did not relent, with high energy all-cast dance numbers paired to classic dance party tunes. Of course it wouldn’t be a Strut & Fret production without some beautifully choreographed and well executed aerial acrobatics. The aerialist performed every move with such precision, class and a whole lot of sass. It was without a doubt the highlight of the show.

For The Party’s Fringe debut it provides easy and fun entertainment for a decent night out with friends. It’s filled with an incredibly talented cast each with their own unique personalities and artistic skills that make the show the coolest party in town.
