The Jezabels, We Lost The Sea @ The Gov, Adelaide 3/6/2022

What a way to finish off the week than seeing The Jezabels who started their ten year anniversary tour for their iconic album Prisoner right here in Adelaide at the home of live music at The Gov. I don’t think you know how much you miss a band of this calibre until they don’t tour as frequently and it was definitely a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder.

It is always great to be knocked over by a top notch support act and Sydney’s We Lost The Sea did exactly that. Playing on their first tour since 2019 it definitely looked as if they were playing like their lives depended on it. The energy and intensity of their music was really something and quite staggering to believe they have four albums out. My job for next week is to be sussing out a bit more about this band particularly their album Triumph & Disasters with tracks Parting Ways and A Beautiful Collapse.

Just shy of 9.30pm the venue started to fill with a haze of smoke from which The Jezabels emerged to launch in to their ninety minute set to celebrate the ten year anniversary of their debut album Prisoner. Having seen their social media posts leading up to the show they definitely looked excited, maybe a tad nervous and anxious to be back on stage but wow this show was top shelf. Whilst there might not of been many surprises early playing their debut start to end there was plenty to be blown away by.

The title track got things away to a flying start and the crowd found plenty of voice for one of the big singles from the album Endless Summer. It isn’t to experience and hear this album played live in its entirety that you realise how awesome an album it is especially with singles Trycolour, Rosebud and City Girl. Oh my! Singer Hayley Mary apart from a “hello Adelaide, how are you?” let the music do all the talking. Deep Wide Ocean, Piece Of Mind and Catch Me were also great moments before the main set finished.

Returning for an encore Hayley said they wanted to limit the number of songs they were going to play as this was a nostalgia tour. Hot damn! The encore featured some awesome selections including Mace Spray, A Little Piece, Easy To Love and Hurt Me. Hayley acknowledged that after the last couple years that is amazing to be here and the fans felt the same way to. Great night out and we look forward to whatever comes next for The Jezabels.
