Guess who’s back? Back again. Matty’s back. Tell a friend. Because they are not going to want to miss this!
Adelaide Fringe stalwart Matty Grey (Last Dodo Entertainment) returns with the next incarnation of his perennially popular Game On series, GAME ON 3. Joined by Andrew Silverwood, Grey takes to the Melba Spiegeltent stage like a shining star. Literally. He is dressed in a silver astronaut suit. What ensues is a raucous hour of (mostly) controlled chaos.
GAME ON 3 is an interactive homage to gaming. From Pong to Attack of the Mutant Camels and Among Us, every video game generation is explored. Given the show is aimed at kids, or the uglies, and their parents/ caregivers, or the old people, this broad-spectrum is apt. Some jokes the uglies are in on, while others the old people are. Grey ensures everyone is catered for.
The ugly versus old theme continues throughout the show to the amusement of the uglies in particular. It’s a generational contest from quizzes to poo throwing to see who will reign supreme. It is funny no matter how old you are. Especially considering you can collectively boo at old people and not get in trouble for it.
Grey has mastered the art of children’s entertainment. Together with Silverwood and his melodramatic overacting, Grey circumnavigates his way through a talking, yelling and restless audience. The pace is engaging but not overwhelming. However, despite having a microphone at the ready, he often fails to use it and instead shouts across the venue unnecessarily. This, in turn, adds to the inherent havoc of the show. But it does not derail it.
GAME ON 3 is a spirited hour of mayhem with many LOL moments. Where kids can act like kids and adults can act like kids too. The name of this game is to have fun, and no matter what age you are, you will.
