Hollie Col Unveils New Single “Forgot To Love You”

Sydney-based multi-disciplinary artist Hollie Col has unveiled the latest clip for her brand-new single, Forgot To Love You out now via Believe; an infectious hybrid of charming melody and anthemic guitar-infused pop. Produced by Xavier Dunn (Jack River, CXLOE, Gretta Ray), Forgot To Love You is the first instalment from her forthcoming EP which is set for release early 2022.

The track explores the romanticism of being single in your 20’s, failure to fully commit, and the Gen-Z dread that hits hard when you realise you’ve ruined a relationship. The clip, which was directed, produced, and edited by Hollie, is a visual feast for the eyes, set in front of a vibrant picnic backdrop and featuring all the fun and games of a 70’s-inspired “eat your heart out” break-up party. Known for her emotive, narrative-based, and slickly produced film clips, Hollie has amassed 93k+ followers and over 10 million views on Youtube.

How has the build up been leading up to the release of the single?
A lot of counting down the days! I’ve been sitting on this song for a while, so it felt like the longest wait. I’m so excited people can finally hear it.

Was the process of making your single as challenging as you thought?
It was actually super fun and simple. I wrote this song with Xavier Dunn (and his cat Milo who hung out with us the whole time) so it was a super chill environment and the song wrote itself quite naturally!

Sonically, how would describe your music?
I would describe it as a sort of guitar-infused pop. I definitely come from a singer songwriter/ narrative driven world when I write music, but I absolutely love a counter melody and super fun guitar riffs.

Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
I would say lyrically, Taylor Swift is a huge influence and production wise – HAIM and Maggie Rogers are both key influences!

Best piece of advice you have been given?
To take the time to step back and enjoy what is happening. It’s super easy to reach your goal and already be focused on the next one, so I’m TRYING to get better at acknowledging achievements.

When did you discover your passion for music?
I must have been really young. I was in musical theatre when I was three or four, so I don’t think it was a conscious choice, but more of a natural progression for the passion to grow!

Are you looking to tour more broadly?
YES! I have been to Europe once before to tour, and I am planning to go back early 2022. I’m also itching to get back out on the road in Australia when lockdown ends. I definitely would love to go to New Zealand to tour as well, that would be a dream.

What’s next for Hollie Col?
LOTS of new music!!
