It would seem like every nook and cranny in rock ‘n’ roll history has been explored ad infinitum by this point. Countless books and magazine articles have been written, painstakingly excavating the lives and careers of everyone from Chuck Berry to Aerosmith, Wanda Jackson to Arcade Fire. But what if there was a band with deep roots whose story had barely been broached?
A band with direct ties to Little Richard, The Kinks, The Mamas & the Papas, The Electric Prunes, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Iggy Pop, The Runaways, The Flamin’ Groovies, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Steppenwolf, Meat Loaf, and Blue Cheer. Such a band does exist. They are THE HOLLYWOOD STARS. And now, after more than 40 years apart, they are performing together again and making new music.
THE HOLLYWOOD STARS have now released their version of Kiss’ King Of The Night Time World via Golden Robot Records, taken from their upcoming live album.
“The original version of the song that was later done by Kiss. It is a more straight ahead, rock and roll version with all of the energy and excitement of a live performance combined with a near studio-quality sound. The lyrics bring back the vibe of the Sunset Strip in the mid-1970s and the street scene in Hollywood at that time.” – THE HOLLYWOOD STARS
Bad Timing is the latest single from the Dead Dirty Dinosaurs and the third release with the force that is Riot Records and their parent company Golden Robot Records. Bad Timing is the follow up to recent singles Monica and Revenge.
Life is never simple and relationships can take us all to the depths of confusion, on all sorts of levels. Bad Timing takes a sneak peak at a few moments in time for two people who have no clue what they want or how to get it, sound familiar?
The Treble D’s bring you another pounding indie rock anthem that will keep you bouncing all the way until the final woos. The trademark riffs are back with a dirty bassline and the driving drums that we are starting to expect as standard from the Dead Dirty Dino’s.
Cousin Betty is the brainchild of Australia’s Damien Stofka a guitarist/songwriter, who has created riffs and written songs for Molten Universe, Death Mattel, LITTER and various other projects for the last 15 years. Cousin Betty are set to release their second single Tape Hiss on the 1st February. Tape Hiss is the follow up to the recently released Drone.
“When we were jamming this one, I just remember the energy it had. It really needed to be celebratory and communal – something that people would want to sing out load together. I thought of examples like Kiss ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll All Night’, Queen ‘We Will Rock You’ and Twisted Sister ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’. While we discussed those and other examples, it occurred to me that I couldn’t think of anything contemporary – since ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ perhaps, that was as much of an anthem. That’s when I decided to just make it about a period of anthems in general.” – Damien Stofka
First single Drone, which is out now via Golden Robot Records, is the debut single from the upcoming EP Left. Drone is a meaty slab of distorted, psychedelic, influenced indie desert rock, and the official video is equally impressive.
Hailing from Failsworth/Tameside in Manchester UK, Callow Youth epitomize everything that is great about Brit-rock. Callow Youth are arguably the hottest young band to come out of Manchester in the last few years. Recently signed to Golden Robot Records, Callow Youth have now released their new single Over Your Head.
Big on melody and soaked in jangly riffs, they deliver a fiery brand of hook ridden indie rock. Over Your Head is bound to make a hell of a noise on the scene. Over Your Head is about the common man’s daily life in Britain and the effects of social deprivation and manipulation of these people by those who seem to be on their side, but actually just using them to further their own agendas.
LAST TEMPTATION brings together guitarist Peter Scheithauer (Killing Machine, Belladonna, Temple of Brutality), Butcho Vukovic (Watcha) vocals, Julien Rimaire (Los Dissidentes Del Sucio Hotel) bass and Vince Brisach (Mitch Ryder) on drums all under the watchful eye of former Guns ‘N Roses Manager Doug Goldstein. LAST TEMPTATION are proud to have announced they have signed a world-wide deal with Crusader Records (Part of the Golden Robot Global Entertainment Group)
“We are beyond excited to be a part of Crusader Records / Golden Robot Records family. After a few talks with Mark, it was clear that GRR would be Last Temptation’s home. A label and a team that understand what rock ‘n roll is all about, and mostly understand the band’s needs. We can’t wait to share the new songs we have been polishing during those down times! And once we get a green light, the roads are calling us to meet with our fans and get that party rolling.” – Last Temptation
To celebrate the announcement LAST TEMPTATION have released a sample of their upcoming single Main Attraction.
Las Vegas based punk rock outfit Gob Patrol have unleashed their new EP New Spit out now via Riot Records. Gob Patrol are heavily inspired by the legendary 80’s US punk scene highlighted by acts such as Black Flag, GBH, Minor Threat and The Germs they are angsty, rebellious, chaotic and 100% pure old school punk rock, just how we love it.
New Spit features 5 furious and raging punk rock tracks including the recently released singles Anarchy and Sin City.
The album American Nightmare by Fang is now out and available for the first time ever, available on all digital download & streaming platforms! All original recordings from the 1998 release, originally released on Wingnut Records, are now digitally available through Die Laughing / Golden Robot Records. This record has been very hard to find and this digital release is a long time coming. American Nightmare is record that is a must for all Fang and hardcore punk fans!
1996 After spending 7 years in some of the worst prisons in the USA, for a horrible crime, I was released onto the streets a changed man. I had not planned on ever getting Fang back together but with the urging of many and a longing to make music again I rebuilt Fang in 1997 with Josh Levine (Bass), Greg Langston (Drums) and Bill Burnett (Guitar). American Nightmare is the culmination of that rebirth. Most of the lyrics on the record were written while I was still incarcerated. It is a window into the past, a window into the California penal system and the violence and brutality of the CDC with songs like Electric Chair and City of Pain. It is also a Fang record in that there are moments of pure sarcasm ie; Eat a Vegan and Motor City Drag Queen. As well as a hard look at the punk rock scene in the city of Sacramento and the war that was raging there at the time – Pride.
American Nightmare was slated to be released in 1998 but Wingnut records closed their doors forever and all the records, CDs and cassettes were locked away in storage for many years. With mind blowing cover art by Joe Coleman and incredible production and engineering by Jason Carmer it was sad that the record never really saw the light of day…. Until now.’’ – Sammytown, FANG
