A friend recommended David Quirk to me recently and like the unconventional comedian Daniel Kitson, I will definitely be seeing David each time he (hopefully) comes back to the Adelaide Fringe in future years. David is a very clever comedian and tonight he told a fascinating and very funny story about an internet article by a sportswriter called Russell Johnson. I do not want to give away any more than this but I found I was equally laughing at the story as well as being totally engrossed in it as well. What made this night even funnier was the interaction he had with the crowd and particularly with one stoned man and his girlfriend in the second row. I doubt I will see a better comedy show at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.
David had given up on comedy about three years ago but thankfully for us, he has made a comeback and decided to give it another go. Tonight’s performance was only the fifth time he has performed it and was quite apologetic by having to read his notes sometime and yet in no way did this detract from the show and in fact to me it made it funnier. After Adelaide, David is taking this show to Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne and I would pay to see this show again in Melbourne if David could convince Russell Jackson to attend.
Tonight’s show was so good I even forgive him for saying that the only thing lower than a sports writer was a comedy reviewer. Thanks, DQ
