Strict Face

Super talented Strict Face is a parted of Scouted this year who is proving to be right up there with the most creative, blending pop, dancehall, R&B, club and a range of other sounds rolled in to one. To his credit there’s the EP This Heat and a whole host of new tunes available on Bandcamp. Jon from Strict Face answers a few questions for Hi Fi Way: The Pop Chronicles about what it means to play Scouted.
What does it mean to you to be part of Scouted this year?
Not only is the lineup top-notch, but it’s also cool to have platforms like Scouted where people take a gamble on artists who are bringing something new to the table here, so it’s an honour to be part of the class of 2018.
Why is it so important for Adelaide to have events like this that expose musicians to national industry executives?
I guess it’s kind of obvious… we have the same quality of acts as Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, so I feel it’d be a disservice for people to not know about the talent we have here, whether they’re on the upper level of the music industry or punters like us.
What can we expect from your Scouted set?
Sorry, you’re asking the wrong person here.
What’s excellent about your venue and stage sponsor?
I’m always going to be thankful to Rocket because quite a few of the staff there have been very supportive of what I’m doing since the early days, much like they have with many of my muso mates here. They’re probably one of the key venues keeping things exciting for the Adelaide live and club scene. I don’t have as much of a relationship with the AU Review, personally, but it’s very reassuring seeing websites like them keeping their fingers on the pulse for our city in an age where an overload of online content does make it hard to truly know what’s good at times.
When you are finally scouted, how will you spend your first million?
About one third of it would go to getting a good space, some new toys for the studio and taking care of artist feature fees. The rest of it’ll probably go on a jet-ski and some ridiculous gold chains, I guess.
