Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits

Duo Hana and Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits will be tearing up the stage at Scouted 2018. Coming from punk rock backgrounds this hot duo are creating an alt-country storm with their ensemble Bad Habits. Their debut release Southlands was a midnight love letter to the heartsick and downtrodden, evoking the spirit of revered country music luminaries such as Lucinda Williams and Bonnie Raitt. Hana Brenecki answers some questions for Hi Fi Way: The Pop Chronicles about playing Scouted 2018.

What does it mean to you to be part of Scouted this year?
Maybe we’ll get to play to a whole different audience, and from that you never know what opportunities can eventuate. As a band we love being on stage together, and we’re all great friends so any show for us is also a good catch up.

Why is it so important for Adelaide to have events like this that expose musicians to national industry execs?
It’s so important because Industry execs are there to make dreams come true like finally being able to request specific things on our rider such as pizza in the shape of our own faces, and cute dogs to pat before we go on stage.

What can we expect from your Scouted set?
A half hour of country soul power. Lots of harmonies, knee slides, synchronised dance moves and Jess is going to do the best solo ever in every song whilst doing the splits.

What’s excellent about your venue and stage sponsor?
We’ve never played at Nexus but it’s a gorgeous space so we’re pretty excited to play that stage. Channel 9 are cool because they are home to one of my favourite ever shows, Survivor. I’ve seen all 36 seasons. Jeff Probst has not aged in 21 years., it’s incredible. The Adelady ladies are food enthusiasts so it seems very appropriate that they are our other sponsor.

When you are finally scouted, how will you spend your first million?
I’d buy happiness, for the sole purpose of proving everybody wrong.
