Australian Psychedelic Beatles Experience – Kaleidoscope Eyes @ The GC at the German Club, Adelaide 18/3/2017

Few artists inspire to the degree The Beatles have over the years, their catchy melodies, harmonies and fun nature of their music, has survived generations. South Australia’s own tribute band, Kaleidoscope Eyes, are driven by their own unique take on the fab four, focussing their act on some of the more psychedelic Beatle’s fair, from albums such as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour, lovingly performed to recreate the sounds of the songs as they were recorded on the original albums.
A stick of incense burning on stage, eyes closed, you were transported back to a mellower time as the band worked their way through Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, With A Little Help From My Friends and Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, and along with the help of some select audience cue cards for applause and laughter, I Am The Walrus found the audience truly immersed.
The band faithfully recreated the atmosphere of the studio cuts live and it sounded incredible, while brass section The Horned Ones, added depth throughout the show. Other highlights included Getting Better, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane and All You Need Is Love, performed straight through, with “no fake encores” just a band that clearly loved the music they were performing and enjoyed sharing their passion with the audience.
I’d be amiss if I didn’t mention the other star of this and many other of this year’s Fringe Shows also, in The German Club, which has really proven itself as a great Fringe venue and in particular, provided a perfect location for some more intimate rock gigs.
