Boney M Featuring Maizie Williams, Jeremy Costa @ Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide 25/4/2026

If any band or artist deserves a victory lap there aren’t many more deserving that Boney M featuring Maizie Williams. Fifty years in the making and a back catalogue of riches than transcends generations so it was of no surprise to see such a broad and diverse age range of music lovers assemble at Thebarton Theatre for the last stop on the Australian leg of the Final Curtain Tour. It was a case of good luck getting a ticket having being sold out for quite some time.

The legacy of this much loved iconic band runs deep and I’ve said before that they are one of those sorts of bands that you would be hard pressed to find anyone who didn’t know who they were. And yes, nostalgia is a wonderful thing and done so well like this. It is true what they say about timeless classics such as this is that they do take you back to a point in time and I remember exactly when I heard my parents play these classics on vinyl they still have in their collection.

Opening act Jeremy Costa had a tough assignment playing to this crowd who largely talked the entire way through his set. Unfortunate because he’s a real talent who deserves to be heard. He had the right intention though bringing the good time vibes to the Thebbie which his brand of pop, soul, funk and R&B. Stand out tunes include the likes of Love Is All I Have, Come On Love Me, Break It Down and Why You Always.

Boney M need no introduction! By the time half eight ticked over the crowd were excitable and ready to get hips shaking and feet shuffling. The set list was loaded starting with Sunny followed by Daddy Cool and Hooray! Hooray! It’s a Holi-Holiday. This was no copy and paste from last tour of Australia in 2024. Big venue, big band, big production… it was hard to be critical of what was delivered to the Adelaide fans and a fitting way to remember this iconic band. We were in awe of the passion and energy of Maizie Williams who at seventy fives years young more than proves she still has it and gives those younger pop/ disco artists a run for their money.

Belfast and Ma Baker were great moments before slowing it down with a love song Malaika (translated to “My Angel”) then getting the crowd involved and bringing some Jamaican flair on Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry. With a costume change and band introductions the next part of the set featured more of the Boney M classics starting with Baby Do You Wanna Bump, Brown Girl in the Ring and Bahama Mama. Maizie expressed an overwhelming sense of gratitude from her to the fans that have been a part of the journey and whilst this may have been the final curtain she left the impression that the door is still open with a “never say never”. When you are performing that well, why not hey? Just need a bigger venue to accommodate the unprecedented demand. So whilst this was a celebration of a career well done filled with music important to so many there is some solace that the door is open. Even after the show Maizie re-iterated the same thing.

The time literally did fly charging to the end with some huge disco bangers with Rasputin and their biggest number one Rivers of Babylon. The crowd were united in singing this one and with the band leaving the stage they returned for one more with Gotta Go Home bring the Australian leg of the tour to a close. This show was the perfect way to remember Boney M featuring Maizie Williams and maybe just maybe there might be another tour sometime soon.
