Moodring “death fetish”
The new album from American’s Moodring, death fetish, is an uninhibited dive into the human consciousness of isolation, rejection, being sexually charged or doped up.
Musically it has borrowed from yesteryear however the combinations are modern and volatile making for compulsive listening.
From the rapid start of half-life, which combines melancholy vocals with crushing breakdowns and a catchy chorus, it’s clear Moodring’s decision to stop touring is helping to channel all that energy into the music.
The nu-metal vibes within cannibal are mixed in with a pop chorus, stomping drums and big thunder riffs. The volatility of the lyrics riding the craziness of the music.
The Deftones like smooth vocals mix with rage. The industrial beats and rhythms dance with pop punk choruses and the breakdowns are just straight up lightning on this album.
masochist machine and gunplay(suicidal 3way) are dynamite and leaning on dangerous before ketamine, a solemn, serene number with a floating melody slows the mind, similar to a drug high.
That laidback style continues into anywhere but here before normal service resumes in stfa, which is angry, incendiary and the band throwing down arguably their heaviest track ever, while still having an infectious chorus of course.
oxidised is another bouncer while sickf_ck pounds like Sabbath if they discovered metal today.
Last track coldmetalkiss ends the album with an angelic vocal delivery, sentimental and soft. The final track on what has been a wild roller coaster of an album. All the styles of metal in the last twenty years garnished with modern rage and subtlety into one album.
Addictive and combustible, Moodring’s death fetish is an album you cannot stop listening too. The uncontrollable urge to press replay, the sonic equilvant to the highs explored on the album. Fantastic album.
