Tash York Is Back At The Adelaide Fringe…
It’s not Adelaide Fringe time without a show from Tash York! The ‘The Grande Dame of Drag and Cabaret’ has a new show Tash York’s Chaos Cabaret. If you know Tash then you know crazy chaos will definitely be on the cards! Tash promises a show with no rehearsals, completely unscripted, and of course pure chaos! It’s the ultimate, improvised variety game show with a wild mix of drag, cabaret, circus, and burlesque playing at the BankSA Theatre Gluttony from Tuesday March 11 – Sunday March 23.
Tash York, you’re back! You love Adelaide Fringe, and Adelaide Fringe loves you! What show are you bringing for Adelaide audiences this year?
I’m bringing my brand-new improvised variety game show, Chaos Cabaret! Because let’s be real—my life is already a cabaret of chaos, so why not turn it into a show?! Expect high-energy, high-glamour, and highly unpredictable antics. I wanted to create something that celebrates the ridiculous, the fabulous, and the utterly unexpected. So naturally, I’ve wrangled together a lineup of sensational artists who thrive on all things camp, queer, and chaotic!
It seems very chaotic (meant with love, of course). How did you come up with this concept?
I’ve been around the traps, hosting and working with some of Australia’s (and the world’s) most iconic variety performers. But I’ve always wanted my own variety show—something truly and uniquely mine. Since improvising songs is my thing, I thought, why not bring that into the mix? And so, the idea evolved into a full three-round game show format! I’ve done a few trial runs, and let me tell you—it works a treat! I can’t wait to bring it to my fave Adelaide Fringe audience.
You’ve got a cracking lineup of artists. Who’s on the bill?
You know I love to share the love—because let’s face it, I’ve been around! 😉 We’ve got an incredible mix of local and interstate acts, including drag royalty, burlesque bombshells, circus sensations, and comedy chaos-makers. Some names Adelaide audiences might recognise include:
✨ Hans
✨ Trigger Happy
✨ Millicent Sarre
✨ Memphis Mae
✨ Ferri Maya
✨ Katie Wright-Dynamite
✨ Bisexual Intellectuals
✨ Lyra la Belle
✨ Jens Radda
✨ Kitty Obsidian
… and many more!
Tell us about the interactive digital voting system—or is it a secret?
Now, I could spill the beans, but where’s the fun in that? Let’s just say, the audience gets to decide the chaos, and trust me, you want to be part of it! If you’ve got an internet connection and can scan a QR code, you’re in for some next-level interactive fun.
You’re in demand worldwide! Where have you been performing?
I’ve been incredibly lucky to join the cast of Swamplesque as Princess No. 3 (for legal reasons, I can’t say her name… but she’s the one who marries the ogre in that 2001 movie… you know the one! 😉).
I’ve performed at Edinburgh Fringe, returned for their Christmas season, and this year, we’re taking the show across the UK—including London’s West End! It’s honestly a dream come true. Apparently, at 36 years old, you can still learn new tricks—so now I’m a high-kicking, worming, and burlesque-ing cabaret artist!
