The Kid Laroi, ONEFOUR @ Entertainment Centre, Adelaide 24/11/2024
Last night Adelaide was delighted to welcome back Australia’s very own global superstar, The Kid Laroi, who returned to home soil for his international tour, The First Time.
The Kid Laroi was due to tour Down Under back in February of this year, but due to “logistical stuff” and not being able to lock in his surprise guest for that time, the Australian leg of his tour was re-arranged for this month.
Even though the chart-topping singer-songwriter and rapper made these changes way back when, unfortunately his support act, Migos star Quavo, was unable to make it due to “travel complications.”
Luckily T.J. Mizelle, who you Run DMC fans may know as famous DJ Jam Master Jay’s son, stepped in to fill the time slot with an extended set to hype up the crowd.
Drill artists and fellow Sydneysiders, ONEFOUR, also played an extended set which was a treat for their fans considering how much of a rare opportunity it is to see them live. Since forming back in 2014 (hence the name) the group have only performed a handful of times together and are considered trailblazers in the industry for popularising Drill music in Australia.
They performed singles from 2019 to present day that continue to take the internet by storm, including Home and Away and COMMA’S. The group encouraged the crowd to mosh and rap along before dialling it down and raising their lights for a more touching tribute. Welcome to Prison was dedicated to Dahcell “Celly” Ramos, one of their core members, who is currently serving time.
The Kid Laroi took to the stage at 9:30pm sharp, with audience members flocking to his famous Canadian girlfriend, Tate McRae, who was also watching amongst the crowd.
Baby I’m Back was a fitting opener for the twenty one-year old, who later admitted how excited he was to be back in Adelaide – the home of his favourite Indian takeaway and where he recently had fun being a tourist on the Glenelg ferris wheel.
He performed banger after banger from his 2023 album including TikTok viral hit, Girls, Love Again and What’s The Move?
As per usual, artists like to reward us for being long serving fans and playing tracks from previous albums. The Kid Laroi did not disappoint on this front. Showing a huge amount of respect, love and adoration for his late friend and mentor, Juice WRLD, we sang our hearts out to Go, their famous collaboration released posthumously in 2020.
It also wouldn’t have been fair to leave out his world-conquering hit, Stay, featuring best bud Justin Bieber. So before he departed the stage he made sure to let everyone know that this was still just as big of a tune as it was back in 2021.
After the crowd demanded one more song, The Kid Laroi returned for just that, closing the show with another viral sensation, Nights Like This.
The Kid Laroi put on a spectacular performance. His vocals were outstanding and sounded even better live than on his records, who knew that was possible?
He is on track for further international stardom and I’m certain he will continue to dominate the charts for years to come. We may not have the opportunity to see him live again for a very long time – don’t wait. Head to his final shows in Hobart (27 November) and Melbourne (29 & 30 November) if you can.
