Fear Factory Ready To Rock Froth & Fury With A ‘Fan Chosen’ Set List
‘I am Dino Cazares from the group Fear Factory, and we are going to announce what set list won for us to play at the Froth and Fury Fest. The one that won is the four albums, ‘Soul Of A New Machine’, ‘Demanufacture’, ‘Obsolete’, and of course ‘Digimortal’. Do we do it in chronological order or do we mix ’em up?’
Dino is fine form discussing the upcoming Froth & Fury Festival in Adelaide, the band’s only show on this Australian leg and the exclusive, never played before, set-list announcement is one part of what is essentially going to be every Fear Factory’s wet dream come the second weekend of November.
‘Every time we play ‘Linchpin’ it goes crazy. It’s like our biggest song, you know what I mean? When you think the set list will be over with ‘Replica’, because it’s pretty much like the 10th song, will the set list be over? No, because we got to go to some other bangers, Shock, Edgecrusher, What Will Become’.
Also on the agenda that weekend are not one, but two, Dino Cazares guitar clinics hosted by Australian Rock and Metal Institute (ARMI) as well as drummer Peter Webber teaching his own drum clinic.
‘When I come down here to Adelaide and I do my guitar clinics, I’m going to be doing songs from obviously from Fear Factory records and also from Divine Heresy as well. I’m also going to be taking a lot of questions and I know a lot of people are going to want to talk about my gear, so we’ll talk about my gear, we’ll talk about my guitars and whatever the other questions they want to know. I’ll be there to answer.’
The band were last in Australia in March with Machine Head however the tour didn’t grace Adelaide, however life works out for South Australia that we now get a Fear Factory extravaganza and all this with new vocalist Milo Silvestro.
‘For some reason, I don’t know why for didn’t play Adelaide because we were on the tour with Machine Head and we were supporting them. So, the tour didn’t happen to go there, but it worked out in a good way because Jason North reached out to me and said, ‘Hey, why don’t you do the Froth and Fury fest?’ And I said, okay, let’s make it work. So now you guys get a special set, you’re going to get a longer set and it’s going to be great’
For those lucky enough to see the band with Milo earlier this year, the show was incendiary and as I remarked on a review of the Melbourne show as a long time fan, ‘Fear Factory have never sounded good’.
‘Oh, I’m 100% excited. I mean, Milo, when he came in and he brought this, obviously he’s much younger than we are, so he definitely brought a lot of energy live and he’s a great vocalist. This is the first time he’s ever really done this kind of extensive touring, so obviously there was a little bit of a break in period, but he pretty much got it pretty much right away. Doing these live shows, just seeing the reaction from people’s faces, all the compliments that we got just on how the band sounds, on how Milo sounds, people thanking me for keeping the band going. It feels really good right now. We’re in a really good place. We’re also working on a new record currently, and as soon as I’m done with this interview, I’ll be going right back into the studio and start working on new tracks.’
For a band that has often written about the future, it’s nice to know the band are finally taking that leap into recording with a new vocalist. New singer, new concepts though?
‘Milo will be here, he lives in Italy at the moment, so Milo will be here very soon within the next week. He’s going to be start tracking some vocals and getting things down. Obviously, we’re kind of still in the demo stages, so he’s going to be testing out vocals and seeing how all that works out. We have a lot of lyrics written and we can’t wait to get into the concept of the whole record. It’s definitely going to be a concept for sure. I mean that’s pretty much what Fear Factory is known for and technology has gotten further and it’s also caught up to some of the things we were talking about on our previous records. So with the new concept of where all this AI technology is going, it’s going to be really fun to talk about when this record comes out.’
‘It’s definitely going to be an exciting record for sure. A lot of energy, a lot of the classic Fear Factory stuff that everybody knows. Fear Factory are known for all the killer double bass, of course, sick ass riffs, heavy and melodic groove, a lot of groove, a lot of intense fast stuff. The heavy and melodic vocals and all the programming done by us and Rhys Fulber and various other people will be a part of this project as well. It’s going to be a classic Fear Factory record and I can’t wait to get it done for everybody to hear it.’
However ,the future is in the future, right now Froth & Fury Fest awaits and now we know the tracks in line to be played, we go back to how Dino started this conversation.
‘I think people should leave how they want the songs. Do they want it in chronological order? Do they want it mixed up? What songs do they want us to play from those four albums? Let’s hear what you guys got. Let’s see what you guys want us to do and let’s go with it. Let’s see what you guys come up with. I’m curious to hear what you guys got. So let’s do it.’
