Luke & Sassy Scott @ Entertainment Centre Theatre, Adelaide 23/9/2024
On September 23rd, Luke and Sassy Scott traipsed into the theatre at Adelaide Entertainment Centre and engaged their fans from their very first profanity. Infused with incessant swearing, laughs and memories, the show was introduced by a 9News presenter as a night of the stories and people that made these larrikin brothers who they are today. The audience was cued with a countdown to the start of the show, before a video montage exploded onto the screen of the brothers as toddlers pushing each-other over and hitting each-other on the head with numerous toys, setting the scene for the fun night ahead. A clip of Selena Gomez, a friend of the two brothers, counted down as the boys danced out on stage to Fatman Scoop’s Be Faithful.
Luke, Sassy Scott’s little brother supported and stirred him up during his re-telling of childhood stories and hilarious renditions of games and pranks the brothers play on social media. These games included What’s In the Box? and Beat Yo Face, originating from a hilarious moment the boys had in Selena Gomez’s office when they went to visit her last year in the US. This segment saw the boys badly cover two audiences members faces with bad make-up. The radiographer Luke and inappropriate and flamboyant Scott’s version of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? was a game that ended with an audience member winning a $1,000 voucher in a novelty sized JetStar cheque!
Fans had the opportunity to ask the brothers anything before walking into the theatre. Upon arrival, we were able to write any question down on a Post-It note, leaving us wondering what questions the boys will bring to the crowd later. These came up during the Ask Us Anything segment of the night where some audience questions were answered. When considering the questions, most answers were conveniently and quite obviously scripted, for example the LGBTQI+ inclusive question about coming out, lovingly unpacked by Sassy Scott, a proud gay man. Luke would read out questions, stir up Scott and sit on the stages comfy couch listening to Scott’s nostalgic stories about his family.
The night was filled with light-hearted, interactive fun, but admittedly the running time dragged for longer than it needed to be. Composed of two Acts, the brothers could have potentially ended the live show on a high. Act 1 ended with Sassy Scott performing his hilarious Sassy Boy song and dance, donning a colourful jumpsuit with Luke joining him on stage singing lyrics relating to how Scott’s famously angry and sassy demeanour is all because Luke knows how to trigger him.
These relatable and rambunctious brothers who created a social media phenomenon via Instagram and TikTok re-created a live version of their entertaining and diverse life experiences and pranks, involving the crowd and ending their tour in Adelaide. Be sure to listen to their podcast on Spotify for all of your daily laughs and relatable dramas in the lives of Luke and Sassy Scott!
