Skating Back: The Return of Adelaide Roller Derby

Roller derby fans it is time to celebrate as the heart of roller derby in South Australia skates back into the public eye this July.

Having successfully hosted The Great Southern Slam, the largest roller derby tournament in the Southern Hemisphere, in June, Adelaide Roller Derby (ADRD) are excited to bring you even more roller derby to revel in.

Following the league’s last public bout, the 2023 Grand Final, and the subsequent loss of their public bouting venue, ADRDs season 2024 has remained behind closed doors. But all that is about to change.

While the search continues for a new, permanent public bouting venue that lives up to the league’s ethos and spectacular event standards, ADRD and The Lights Community and Sports Centre are opening their doors so everyone can again get a taste of the hard-hitting but dazzling derby love. It’s a bout time!

On Saturday, 20 July 2024, the classic derby double header ADRD are synonymous with returns. That’s two games for the price of one.

Catering for all ages, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re an aficionado or a first-time derby goer, you’re in for a rollicking good time.

While it may be a new location, there will be the same bells, whistles, thrills and spills fans are accustomed to. With a live commentary team, live music between bouts, hot food, cold beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and ADRD’s iconic Bout Village featuring local artisans, the day will be a delightful celebration of all things derby.

Doors open 2:30pm. First whistle at 3:30pm as the Road Train Rollers go head-to-head with the Wild Hearses. Then, the Good Ship Salty battle the Mile Die Club circa 5:40pm.
