Powerful New Visual Arts Exhibition ‘Manifest Destiny’ To Premiere At The Adelaide Festival

You’ve seen America through the lens of Hollywood, now, see it through an honest camera. How do you see America?

Award-winning South Australian photographer Alex Frayne challenges our collective perception of the great nation in Manifest Destiny, a powerful new visual arts exhibition premiering at ILA for the 2026 Adelaide Festival.

Featuring more than 300 photographs captured across three years and three journeys across the United States, Manifest Destiny invites audiences a chance to experience modern-day America through Alex Frayne’s unfiltered lens. From the drifters and grifters of Venice Beach to the eerie stillness of the Ozarks and the fentanyl-strewn streets of Los Angeles, this is American reframed.

Blending analogue film photography, with digital immersion and an original score by ARIA award-winning composer Donnie Sloan (Empire of the Sun, Sneaky Sound System). Manifest Destiny is an ambitious cross-disciplinary work set to wow audiences.

This is a timely work, speaking to the current global moment of shifting power/cultural reckoning.
