Brilliant Bubbles @ Fools Paradise, Victoria Square, Adelaide SA 18/2/2024

Eleven a.m. may have been a little early to be attending a Fringe show for the adults congregated outside The Vault in Fools Paradise, Victoria Square, but for the many bubbly children present, the time couldn’t come quick enough.

Dr Hubble has been mesmerising children (and adults) for over 30 years, which means some of the adults taking their children to the show, would have seen it as a child themselves. The show offers a mixture of bubbles, fun, bubbles, humour, bubbles and the occasional subtle sustainability message.
With a few jokes thrown at the children attending, and a “Sorry adults, the jokes don’t get much better than this”, Dr Bubble started blowing bubbles and then just using his hands, blowing even more bubbles.

“I am a scientist” he told the children, “You can tell by my glasses” before giving the scientific explanation for bubbles. (Spoiler alert – it involves soap, water and air). Dr Hubble uses everyday appliances to make bubbles, gumboots, badminton racquets, pipe cleaners and even a slinky.
As the show goes on, Dr Hubble has children dancing in the aisles and the bubbles get bigger, (and bigger) until a child is chosen and is enclosed totally in a bubble.

Two things’ bubbles don’t like are heat and air-conditioning, which on this day, we had plenty of both, but despite this, Dr Hubble carried on with professionalism and overcome the obstacles thrown at him.

The show may not have been anything new for the adults, but it was very entertaining. However, the main thing is, the kids loved it. And that is what it’s all about.

Incredibubbly good fun!
