YUCK Circus @ Umbrella Revolution at The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Adelaide 16/2/2024

Hilarious, purposely awkward and hugely impressive, all at the same time.

YUCK Circus kicked the show off with a testosterone filled performance to ‘The Man’ by The Killers. The catch: the crew is an EPIC all-female cast, from the performers on-stage to the team backstage. Walking out with drawn on moustaches, stuffed crotches and flexing wherever possible, you could tell the male members of the audience were in the hot seat. These women were not afraid to push boundaries and test the limits of the crowd by challenging classic female stereotypes.

Have you ever seen a woman standing one-legged on another woman’s head whilst outwardly mocking lad culture? Me either. But I bloody enjoyed it.

Eventually unravelling the red streamers from their crotches, the women danced and performed incredible acrobatic stunts, all while discussing menstruating, their most embarrassing drunken antics and delivering their worst chat-up lines.

The hits kept coming with a hoop routine to I Was Made for Lovin’ You by Kiss, straight after the girls downed a pint of VB. If there were any kinks, you would have never known. This solo performance blew away the audience and put us on the edge of our seats, wondering how this woman was managing to hold onto all five whirling hoops with a beer bottle still in hand (and sometimes being used elsewhere, if you catch my drift).

An aerial contortion segment followed, with the biggest ‘wow’ moments of the night! As the artist was spinning, swinging and spiralling from just a piece of fabric, applauds were aplenty. And while we were all stunned at the incredible strength of the acrobat, we also couldn’t help but take our eyes off the performance to glance at the vocalist reeling off gags to make us all belly laugh.

The women nailed it – quite literally… Go and see the show to fully understand this pun. A perfect blend of naughty humour, jaw-dropping circus stunts and moments that certainly make you go ‘YUCK.’
