Måneskin @ Entertainment Centre Theatre, Adelaide 25/11/2023
Woooaaahhh! Måneskin at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre was incredible and there is no doubting that it will go down as one of 2023s very best shows. The atmosphere leading up the show was electric with fans knowing that they would be experiencing something quite remarkable that they will be talking about for quite some time to come. Often we talk about shows that you just have to be there and this was definitely one of them and to see them play a theatre show will probably never happen again as next time they will be playing venues far bigger.
Interestingly there was no support but when you are seriously this good you don’t need one. Kicking off a 9 o’clock the next two hours were freaking unbelievable. Even as I write this review I am still buzzing after this experience. They have talent far beyond their years and the energy and intensity they bring to the performance is elite. If you don’t know the name Måneskin now you’ll be hearing a hell of a lot more about them this week as people will be praising and talking no end about this show they experienced not only here in Adelaide but around the country.
Right from first drop the crowd were sent in to hyper mode and went ballistic to the opening notes of DON’T WANNA SLEEP. Talk about lifting the roof off the joint! Fans were more excited than a five year old on Christmas day. It was total euphoria which continued on in GOSSIP. It was an electrifying spectacle. ZITTI E BUONI was awesome followed by front man Damiano David saying hello and mentioning how much he loved Adelaide even though he didn’t know this place existed. He also spoke about Adelaide being the last show of their whirlwind Australian tour and I reckon they saved the best for last.
They have some seriously great tunes to draw on with HONEY (ARE U COMING?), SUPERMODEL and CORALINE which slowed the pace down a tad and was quite the site seeing the crowd wave their arms from side to side. Damiano referred to the cover of The Four Seasons cover Beggin’ as “our curse and our blessing, someone’s favourite and someone’s least favourite”. It was definitely one of many highlights in their set. FOR YOUR LOVE showed the pure class of guitarist Thomas Raggi and bassist Victoria De Angelis. Damiano grabs a spotlight shining it on Raggi making it one of those moments that needed to be photographed. VALENTINE followed and then one of my personal favs GASOLINE.
As the lights went dimmed the focus went to the back of the venue for a special moment in the set where they played two songs acoustically on a smaller stage set up behind the sound desk. The crowd charged in to get the best vantage point making for a tight squeeze for sure. The first was TRASTEVERE then a cover of Sia’s Elastic Heart. They make a point of playing a cover unique to the country they are in which is just awesome and a little pressure to nail it which they did so well.
I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE was another epic moment in the set where the crowd was encouraged to crouch down and jump up on cue to “fuck shit up”. The crowd were well hyped up at this point. MAMMAMIA was based on the most famous Italian word ever. OFF MY FACE and IN NOME DEL PADRE were so good topped off by energy lifting BLA BLA BLA. At this point Damiano said that he had some bad news that this was the last song and that everyone is “horny” and wants to go home! Wanting to make this one as beautiful as possible a bunch of fans were taken up on stage to dance on KOOL KIDS.
It we had experienced enough excitement there was more to come as the band returned to the stage for an encore. Raggi played a guitar guitar solo which lead in to THE LONELIEST and with all the energy they have left they go another round with I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE. Incredible show and if you didn’t make it I reckon you might regret that one.
