Regurgitator, The Empty Threats, Moler @ The Gov, Adelaide 24/11/2023
There is no doubt that Regurgitator have absolutely crushed it 2023! They have had an absolutely massive year and can go in to 2024 riding high. To say it was all happening in Adelaide is an understatement with what is one of the biggest weekend’s for live music in quite a while. With that said it was a big crowd at The Gov who were up and about wanting to kick off the weekend with some awesome music.
Up first were Moler and I have to say to say it took me right back to the days of seeing this band play at many music festivals at the Adelaide Uni Cloisters. Their 1997 album Golden Duck still sits proudly in my collection and like many bands from this time I had given up thinking I’d ever get to see them again here in Adelaide. They played a spirited set proving they haven’t lost any of fire power they had to begin with. Maybe after this show the door might be slightly ajar to return to Adelaide to play their own show. Set highlights for me included Parallel Lines and Red Light Disco.
Adelaide’s very own The Empty Threats were lively and another band doing great things at the moment. Having released their new album Monster Truck Mondays they really do seem on top of the world at the moment especially after picking the award for best live act at the recent SA Music Awards. I reckon they had their own cheer squad down the front being their last hometown show for the year who made plenty of noise. Some of the words to describe their set range from bold to daring and there is something about how they go about it which is captivating. Stuart Patterson is an intriguing character who definitely gives everything and more to the performance and being able to incorporate clarinet in to the mix is really something. Moments that stood out for me were Jason’s Bad Trip, New Jet Ski and Evil Eye.
Regurgitator! Wow! As Quan said “you know the drill? We’re going to make some noise” adding that they always have a great time playing The Gov. This was a great show and they continue to play the songs they whip the crowd up in to frenzy opening with a long time favourite I Sucked a Lot of Cock to Get Where I Am followed by Black Bugs. The Metallica teaser of Enter Sandman was really cool before venturing back to set staples Blood and Spunk, Bong In My Eye and I Will Lick Your Arsehole. Track 1 is always awesome and The World Of Sleaze was dedicated to Hindley Street. “Rolling up the sleeves” and “getting to work” on a song they had not played in a while F.S.O. went down a treat.
Blubber Boy was dedicated to the lovers and to encourage a couples dance and I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff and G7 Dick Electro Boogie proved popular. Time flies when you’re having fun as Regurgitator kept piling on the awesomeness with I, Zombie, Virtual Life (written about mobile phones before mobile phones), Social Disaster and Fat Cop. Quan said to the crowd that he wasn’t sure that they had played well enough for an encore (I think we all disagree with that) staying on stage to power their way through crowd favourite Polyester Girl, I Wanna Be a Nudist and finishing on ! (The Song Formerly Known As). Great show and we all are looking forward to seeing what’s next for Regurgitator. Regurgitator crushed it!
