You Me At Six, Set It Off, Between You & Me @ The Gov, Adelaide 11/7/2023

It might of been a Tuesday night but that didn’t stop a big crowd from getting down to The Gov for a big night of rock music. Three great bands giving fans plenty of value for money. You Me At Six are riding the crest of a huge wave that does not look like breaking any time soon. Their album Truth Decay which was released earlier this year is an absolute cracker loaded with great songs which was a real treat to hear live.

Between You & Me opened proceedings setting the bar high with a lively and energetic set making every moment of their thirty minute set count. It took a bit to get the crowd fired up and get a circle pit going. Highlights from their set included Butterflies, Pleased To Meet You and Deadbeat.

Set It Off! Wow! Their set was electrifying and cranked up the intensity and energy in the room even higher literally bringing a stadium rock show in to more intimate surrounds at The Gov. To be able to see these bands in such surrounds only heightens the fan experience being that upfront and close to the action. Their set was turbo charged coming roaring out of the blocks with Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing and Killer In The Mirror.

Front man Cody Carson showed no fear walking on the hands of the fans down front and crowd surfing back to the stage. Projector and Loose Cannon were great and drummer Maxx Danziger took care of vocals on Hypnotized. Carson repeatedly encouraged and fired up the crowd to get in to it particularly on anthemic Win Win. N.M.E continued that energy which included a teaser of Backstreet Boy’s Everybody. Why Worry and Punching Bag were big moments to bring their short fire set to an end.

You Me At Six in short were fantastic! There’s plenty to like about this band who have risen in stature and can mix it with the best of them. Ninety solid minutes of rock with no filler covering all corners of their back catalogue. Deep Cuts was an awesome opener and the band powered their way through Fresh Start Fever and Straight To My Head. One thing for sure is that this band haven’t forgotten who put them there… the fans! Front man Josh Franceschi made it clear that it wasn’t going to be a tour without playing Adelaide showing how genuine they are in repaying the faith from their fans. heartLESS was awesome and Franceschi said that we were cordially invited to the next part of the show – “the mosh pit” encouraging fans to dance, jump, mosh and crowd surf.

The hits kept coming with Bite My Tongue, What It’s Like, No Future? Yeah Right before slowing things down on Give. God Bless The 90s Kids is an absolute gem and a collective favourite for the band but the highlight of their set would be what you could consider as their mission statement of sorts in Take On The World which was dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community with Franceschi encouraging people to be true to themselves, love who you want to love and treat those people how you want to be treated. Room To Breathe was followed by a moment of reflection on their journey so far saying that Australia was the first place outside of the UK where they felt at home admitting that with the pandemic there may not be any kangaroos for a while. Finishing on No One Does It Better the crowd made plenty of noise for one more song and getting four more.

The encore featured all the big ones with Suckapunch, Underdog and Reckless with Franceschi proclaiming that “You Me At Six are alive in 2023 bitch!” Beautiful Way finished what was a great show with Franceschi thanking the crowd once again and saying “I don’t know when but let’s do this again.” Get a ticket and go, great show!
