Tropical Fu*k Storm Release Their 17 Minute Cover Of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘1983…(A Merman I Shall Turn To Be)’

Tropical Fu*k Storm release their 17-minute cover of Jimi Hendrix’s 1983…(A Merman I Shall Turn To Be), the final single previewing their new EP, Submersive Behaviour, out now via Joyful Noise Recordings.

Singer/ guitarist Gareth Liddiard describes it as “an attempt to right the recent wrongs perpetrated against Hendrix’s classic Angel by some idiot from One Direction doing a karaoke-style ‘tribute’ for Jimi’s 80th birthday.” The TFS cover aptly pays homage to the psychedelic guitar god with a faithful rendition that takes an acid trip nosedive into another dimension and returns to earth for a thrilling conclusion.

With a 36-minute run-time, Submersive Behaviour is Tropical Fuck Storm’s new collectors gem in the form of a 12”. The Hendrix cover features Liddiard (vocals/guitar/drums), Erica Dunn (vocals), Fiona Kitschin (vocals), Lauren Hammel (drums) and guest stars old comrades Dan Kelly (bass, guitar vocals) and Aaron Cupples (bowed spring, mixing).

TFS then put their deranged spin on classics by The Stooges, Middle Aged in the Middle East in the Middle Ages, Men Men Menstruation and Compliments to the Chef. ‘1983…(A Merman I Shall Turn to Be)’ follows last fall’s release of their cover of The Stooges’ ‘Ann’.
