Ruel Releases New Single “Someone Else’s Problem”

Multi-platinum, ARIA-winning solo artist, vocalist and global icon, Ruel (aka Ruel Vincent van Dijk) presents a second taste of his upcoming debut record with new single, SOMEONE ELSE’S PROBLEM, out now via Sony Music (Australia & New Zealand) / RCA (ROW).

Written and produced alongside longtime collaborator, M-Phazes (Khalid, Sam Fischer & Noah Cyrus) with songwriters John Levine (Bebe Rexha, Alessia Cara) and Casey Smith (Olivia Rodrigo), the track starts with a simple acoustic strum before Ruel’s iconic lead vocal cuts to the front.

Part-triumphant, part-introspective, SOMEONE ELSE’S PROBLEM sees Ruel pen the business of processing breakups and new beginnings into an irresistible alt-pop anthem. A chorus of coos builds to an earworm of cathartic release to sing along to, savouring the relief when a lost lover becomes another’s future problem.

On the single, Ruel explains: “It’s about that feeling you get when you realise the benefits that only the end of a relationship can bring: when you look through a different lens at all the time you spent with that special someone and realise you’re way better off without them. I wanted to write something with subject matter that was more lighthearted, kinda funny, but still empowering. I really love this song and I hope my fans can relate to it and feel better about themselves after a shitty break up.”
