East AV3 Return With New Single & Video ‘WTFO’

Hyperactive Adelaide crew EAST AV3 have taken a dark turn on their nocturnal new single and video WTFO and announce a hometown headline show set for 4 November.

While genre-defiant experimentation has always been at the heart of EAST AV3, WFTO sees the group push even further into uncharted territory. Incorporating elements of throwback pop, abrasive electronica and psychedelic rock into WFTO, the song is yet another example of EAST AV3’s willingness to blend a smorgasbord of sounds into their repertoire.

WFTO was created on an EAST AV3 writing trip to Sydney back in 2020, where the new settings provided inspiration for the track. “It’s on trips like these – in a foreign city with different streets and smells – where we usually create our best art,” the group says. The WTFO video, shot by Stepney Studios and directed by Jack Bielby and Thomas Schaefer, captures the band as they walk, run and stumble their way through the night, armed with torches to uncover whatever dangers lie in the darkness. Evoking images of glitchy horror films and psychological thrillers, the video bolsters the song’s manic journey into the unknown.

WFTO marks a new chapter for EAST AV3, which has “given birth to a whole new direction and creative universe which we are excited to share with our fans.” Following the release, EAST AV3 will drop a handful of standalone singles before working towards an EP that “embodies all the dark and powerful qualities of ‘WTFO’.” With EAST AV3 exploring gloomier sounds in their upcoming material, expect more songs coming straight out of left field.

Comprised of rappers Kane Trop3z & YOURPAPASENSEI alongside producer Nic Flare, EAST AV3 are teenage friends turned experimental hip-hop group, wowing listeners with their concise yet diverse catalogue. Their debut single Riding Through The Fire was added to full rotation on triple j, also peaking at #6 on the Spotify Australia Viral 50 charts; while they’ve since released their sprawling RUGRAT$ EP and collaborations with everybody from George Alice to Raj Mahal. On the live front, EAST AV3 have performed at Listen In festival and alongside like-minded crews including Triple One, treating audiences to their energetic, unmissable live show.
