King Brown Talk “My Love”

At the annex between suave and grit, WA rockers King Brown return with latest single My Love. Steadfast rhythms guide an unctuous dive-bar sound whilst honey coated melodies soften and smooth Pulling aural influences from The Black Keys, Verge Collection, and The Strokes, King Brown add their own hugely accomplished, and impeccably stylish, take into the Aussie rock arena. A truly immersive listen, My Love will have your heart aching in sympathy for the lovesick melodies from Brendon, yet grooving under a hypnotic spell from the surrounding instrumentation. You’ll notice King Brown’s power lies in their ability to craft rich soundscapes that take on a palpable essence that is captivating from the very first chord. The band answer a few questions about the single for Hi Fi Way.

How has the build up been to the new single My Love?
It feels good to finally have some new music out after almost a year! There were a lot of roadblocks towards the end of last year with COVID which made things take a bit longer than we would have liked, but it feels great now and we’ve got plenty more on the way!

What is the story behind the single?
Thematically My Love is a song about being completely lovesick towards someone. Feelings that are so intense that you’d do anything for them, but in the back of your mind being very insecure and jealous of anyone else because you’re afraid of losing them.

What has the fan response been like so far?
It’s been getting a fair bit of ‘Love’ haha. We’re actually going to play it live for the first time since release tonight, so we’ll get back to you on that one!

What was your reaction when you heard the single on the radio?
It’s always a surreal feeling to hear your song on the radio and to hear the love come in from the text line just blow’s our mind every time.

How would you compare it sonically to some of your other music?
It’s something that is continually evolving but I think we’ve found our groove with the Bluesy classic rock with a sprinkling of some newer indie influences in there. I’d say ‘My Love’ shares a similar sound to our previous song Moto. Its got a lot of energy in it.

Is the band building towards and album or EP?
Definitely something bigger than an EP, but we’ll announce that all in due course!

Who would you say is the biggest shared musical influence/ inspiration for King Brown?
There’s so many between us, we all share a lot of the same and also very different influences, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Gary Clark Jr. QOTSA & the Black Keys

Are you pumped to be able to make up for lost time after the last couple of years?
100%, there’s still the chance of shows getting cancelled here and there due to isolation issues but we’re just happy to be back to playing regular shows and creating music together more regularly.

Are you looking forward to being able to tour more broadly around the country this year?
It’s an idea that we’re very excited for, we’ve always wanted to be able to go and play some shows over east, even just to get back in a van and head down south with the band!

What’s next for King Brown?
A lot more shows and new music!
