Melbourne Australia’s Zenith Moon have created quite a stir over the last few months by releasing 3 critically acclaimed singles Going Under, Gypsy and Fight For Me via Golden Robot Records. Zenith Moon’s latest single, Illuminate is a run in with self-doubt. When doubt settles in, the very things that give you joy can become your greatest nightmare. Illuminate is about seeing your way through the darkness.
Drawing from indie-rock and dream-pop, Illuminate is as soft as the rising sun. With a groove built upon African cross rhythms, Andie (drums/keys) throws his full musical weight behind the kit, making every note heavy with emotion. Kalliope (vocals) is powerful yet beautifully intimate in her performance and Matt (guitars) juxtaposes beautiful colour and an emotive rawness that delicately draws you in.
An unmistakably powerful offering, Illuminate is the swan song of doubt, one that will settle under your skin for a long time to come.
Tightwad is the latest single from Gilby Clarke, and the follow up to his recent singles The Gospel Truth and Rock n’ Roll Is Getting Louder. It was written around a guitar riff he wrote while trying out a new fuzz pedal. Lyrically, it was inspired by deceit, treachery and the creative extremes people will go through to get ahead. Tightwad features Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx on bass and Stephen Perkins (Janes Addiction) on Drums.
“This song was written around a guitar riff I discovered while trying out a new fuzz pedal. Lyrically I was inspired by deceit, treachery and the creative extremes people will go through to get ahead. I tried to get my message through with humor, but if it hits to close to home, maybe we all should take a closer look at ourselves & make improvements.
I was lucky to have some wonderful musician friends contribute to the recording of this track, Nikki Sixx & Stephen Perkins. Stephen, as always, came through with a beat that drives the song and Nikki found a cool bass groove that accentuates the feel I was looking for. I tried to get my message through with humor, but sometimes the truth hurts.” Gilby Clarke
Yard Of Blondes are a new force on the alternate rock scene. With their female bassist, raw energy and selective influences you can’t help but being reminded of bands such as Sonic Youth, the Pixies and the Smashing Pumpkins.
Their new single Do You Need More? is storming track, complete with sludgy and earthy guitars, and a pummelling rhythm section which all rolled into some sweet and explosive melodies topped off with some beautiful intertwining of vocals ranging from aggressive to controlled and melodious.
The emerging French/Californian rock band Yard Of Blondes is composed of Vincent Jacob (vocals/guitar), Fanny Hill (bass/vocals), Burak Yerebakan (guitar) and Forrest Mitchell (drums/vocals).
Sydney-based hardcore punk band Kids of Skids recently released their debut single and subsequent video Army Store via Riot Records.
Follow-up single, Trapped, is out now and gives a voice to those trapped in isolation due to Covid-19. Not being able to play gigs cause they’re all cancelled, and live-streaming is the new norm in a world that’s gone mad. Trapped and the accompanying video is a punk as it gets folks.
Melbourne based band Shotgun Mistress has returned with another nose-to-the-grind indie hard rock onslaught, Collide, out now via Crusader Records. Collide highlights the band’s now trademark style of combining stupefying guitar riff grenades, a combustible rhythm section and soaring vocals wrapped in a melodic maelstrom. Shotgun Mistress is as hard to define as it is difficult to ignore – Ignore them at your peril.
This quartet of consummate rock tune craftsmen is riding high on the success of their previous releases, including Save Me from Myself, which bulleted to No1. on the iTunes Australian Rock Charts and smashed into the Top 40 chart, and their last single Glorious Machine, which left charts smouldering in its wake for weeks on end.
The new track is another fiery affair; a blistering tumult of distortion led full tilt with a heart on the sleeve lyric and sly, endearing hooks that don’t let up. Collide is one more tantalizing preview of their forthcoming debut album, due to set the rock world ablaze late in 2020.
Melbourne-based alternate hard rockers Cicadastone are set to release their new single Out of Sight on 2nd November via Golden Robot Records. Out of Sight is the follow up to the recently release singles Dying In Sunshine and Box Of Anger. All three tracks are taken from their upcoming 2021 album Cold Chamber.
“Out of sight is a song about self-discovery and challenging yourself to know who you really are. To admit your faults and be ok with it. We are who we are even if we wanna be something else. Look within yourself and ask that question. Are you happy with who you are? You should be, but It’s easy to lose sight of a vision and hard to stay focused on your goal. We’re always cascading out of sight….’’ Cicadastone
Having recently signed to Golden Robot Records, WILDSTREET has now released their new single Still Love You. Trading in their usual hard rock guitars for acoustic instruments, the song optimistically reflects on lost love and heartache. The Prince inspired ending guitar solo by the band’s singer, Eric Jayk, reminds the listener that love songs still rock!
Still Love You will be released as part WILDSTREET’s highly anticipated full-length album Wildstreet III, which will be released on Golden Robot Records in 2021. WILDSTREET was featured in Billboard magazine in July. With festival dates booked in the UK, Mexico, Colombia, Europe and USA WILDSTREET will resume their planned ‘Kings Of World Tour’ next year.
Hot on the heels of their recent single releases Pay Attention, The Depender and B-Side Baby, Canada’s King Bull will release their new EP What Happened Here? on October 30th via Riot Records.
King Bull encompasses 70’s rock and punk with an angsty vibe and some earthy streetwise riffs and powered by a punk-tinged, rock-ignited fuel. Fired up by intricate licks, buzz-cutter guitar tones and uniquely edgy vocals, they cover what is great about rock music.
Cousin Betty is the brainchild of Damien Stofka a guitarist/songwriter, who has created riffs and written songs for Molten Universe, Death Mattel, LITTER and various other projects for the last 15 years.
Drone, which is out now via Golden Robot Records, is the debut single from the upcoming EP Left. Drone is a meaty slab of distorted, psychedelic, influenced indie desert rock, and the offical video is equally impressive.
“After listening to Drone, our writer/director Ashleigh Hanley, knew he wanted the lyrics to tell one story, but the music video to tell another. Ash is a storyteller at heart and wanted weave a modern day love story and social media filters together. The concept he wanted to explore was what if we could apply these filters in real life. Could we still find real love behind the fakery?” – Cousin Betty
