An integral part of the beloved Australian group All Our Exes Live In Texas, Kit (otherwise known as Katie Wighton) has released her debut solo release, Good Guy. A gritty, guitar-led powerhouse of a single, Good Guy calls out every dude who’s ever gotten away with bad behaviour. Kit has also released a stellar clip to accompany Good Guy, created in collaboration with Gina Somfleth of Pop Candi Films (Merpire, Peach Noise, Press Club). Kit drops by for a quick Q&A.
How has the build-up been leading up to the release of your single Good Guy?
It’s been busy and weird with COVID but generally a very full, happy time!
Was the process of making Good Guy as much of a challenge as you thought it would be?
I didn’t really think it would be a challenge but it proved to be more tricky! I think because it’s my first single as KIT I really wanted to get it right. Thankfully I had a brilliant and patient team working with me on it!
Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
Hmmm. This is very tricky. I definitely wouldn’t have been a musician if it weren’t for my parents – they’re both musicians. My mum has been particularly influential and encouraging so I would say her!
Best piece of advice you have been given?
Be honest. Be kind. Work hard. Nothing ever stays the same!
Are you looking to tour?
Abso-bloody-lutely! Can’t wait until we can get back into live gigs. 🙂 Hopefully Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and then maybe even the UK!
What’s next for Kit?
Another single in the next few months. A couple more after that. Then an album 2021! Yay!
If you had your time over, would you do anything differently?
Nope. I am absolutely happy in my life now and if I changed something maybe I wouldn’t be where I am today!
