Andrew Silverwood: Call Me Janice @ The Piglet, Gluttony, Adelaide 1/03/2020

Andrew Silverwood is no stranger to the Adelaide Fringe. He’s been a regular around the Gluttony grounds for a long time but this year he brought us his new show Call Me Janice. Set in the cosy Piglet tent the show started from the moment we walked into the tent. In fact, Silverwood was gracing us with his presence outside as well while we waited for the show to start! He has a charming and cheeky personality that borders on naughty and by all accounts that’s how the audience loved it.

Talking and singling out audience members as they walked in was an open invitation to hecklers to make their mark early. I suspect that is exactly what Silverwood planned as he produces his funniest comedy with sharp and quick firing responses shutting down even the best of hecklers. He excels at responding to the spontaneous and unexpected and as a result there were plenty of belly laughs throughout the show. Don’t ever come into the show late as you will be an easy target!

Silverwood’s mum is called Janice but Call Me Janice is not about her even though we heard many funny stories that involved his mum as well as other family and friends. There were hilarious stories that involved tattoos, booty calls to Poland, dating in Australia and topics that were not planned such as orgies, threesomes and magician Matt Tarrant (not all involved at the same time!)

This show was a no holds barred comedy hour. Silverwood was at his best free flowing throwing spontaneous insults and banter to the unruly crowd. It was the best crowd for a 4:30pm session and everyone was happy to be a part of the crazy ride that was Andrew Silverwood.
