On September 27th, DragonForce will unleash their 8th full-length album
Extreme Power Metal, worldwide.
Produced in Los Angeles, California by Damien Rainaud at Mix Unlimited, Extreme Power Metal was also recorded, in part, on guitarist Herman Li’s livestream channel on Twitch (www.twitch.tv/hermanli) with participation from the fans. For a first preview of the album, a video for the new single, Highway to Oblivion.
Highway to Oblivion will also appear as a playable level in AUDICA (www.audicagame.com), a virtual reality “rhythm shooter” from Harmonix, the makers of Rock Band and Dance Central. Armed with a pair of rhythm blasters, players will be able to step into a cosmic arena and smash targets to the beat of the song. A standard edit of the song will be available as well as the intensely challenging full-length version. Clocking in at just under 7 minutes, the full-length version of Highway to Oblivion on Expert will be the most difficult song on the soundtrack to date. A flawless run with precise accuracy, timing, and form will earn players one of the coveted top spots on AUDICA’s global leaderboards.
Grammy-nominated and Gold-selling hard rock heavyweights Killswitch Engage have just dropped the video for I Am Broken Too.
The full-concept video was directed by Kyle Cogan and Zack Stauffer of SIMIAN.LA (A Perfect Circle, Breaking Benjamin) and was shot in the Los Angeles area.
“The video is a reflection of real-life events that loved ones have gone through,” says singer Jesse Leach. “Kyle Cogan and Zack Stauffer did an amazing job of bringing it all to life. The result is a powerful video that captures the essence and desperation of the song.”
Alison Wonderland continues her prolific run of new music, dropping stunning new club track TIME, with New Zealand born electronic/trap artist, Quix. Having long harboured a desire to work together, and now both residing in LA, they got together earlier in the year to work up the track that would become TIME.
It comes a week after fans saw a different side to the singer / songwriter / DJ / producer, through the delicate acoustic reworking of Peace.
Sydney’s dynamic up and coming threesome The Goods deliver another soulful taste of what’s to come on their upcoming album with new single Peach.
Peach exemplifies low-slung house with a playful message of sexual desire, wrapped up in a funk groove. The deeper intention of the song aims to evoke feelings of liberation and freedom.
Vocalist Black Tree reflects on what the song means to the band, “My hope is that it becomes a fun feel-good anthem for sexual liberation. Freedom from shame is after all about opening yourself up to the world and the act of vulnerability breaks down walls and allows us to come together.”
Sonic storyteller POOLCLVB returns with the emotive excursion Space featuring the sweet, hypnotising vocals of singer/songwriter Muki.
Birthing unexpectedly from a midweek studio session with song writing queen Muki, Space feels slightly more melancholic than POOLCLVB’s usual buoyant house, but still manifests the full-bodied basslines and mesmerising hooks that you have come to know and love from the artist.
“We were shooting for some future funk bubble gum vibes and we kinda just hit this weird wall so decided to break from writing. I opened up another project I had been working on, I don’t know if it was the overcast day, or the fact that we had both just been through some real-life sh*t, but we really connected on this melancholic vibe, the end result being “Space”. Having dropped his first official label release Introspect just last month, 20-year-old Australian producer Taka Perry today unveils the next taste of his eclectic body of work with his new single Kuruna. Translated to “don’t come around here”, Kuruna is a nod to Taka’s Japanese roots and features the incredible vocal stylings of rising Japanese rapper JP THE WAVY, who raps in both English and Japanese on the track. Having showcased at SXSW earlier this year, JP THE WAVY is a breakout star in Japan’s emerging hip hop scene.
Taka explains how the track came together: “I had an early instrumental of Kuruna on my hard drive for a while, and a mutual friend sent it to JP THE WAVY. We didn’t hear anything back at all, until a few days later when he sent through the whole song, and I knew it was something special.”
JP adds, “Kuruna came together really quickly. I was sent the beat, and over the space of two hours all the lyrics came together.”
XMPLA, the moniker of up and coming Sydney producer Aaron James, has teamed up with vocalist Calmell for the release of his most impressive single to date, Big Kids. A follow up to his electric single Excited, and another step closer to the release of his debut EP on October Records, due later this year.
The new single, sees XMPLA explore and diversify his sound once again. Previously impressing audiences with dynamic productions shaped by a huge range of vocal techniques, and refined by each subsequent release, he has gone on to collaborate with various artists around the world, and now enlisting the help of Sydney vocalist Calmell, with XMPLA gushing on their working relationship, “we were both on a similar wavelengths with how we approached the song, and we pretty much made ‘Big Kids’ within the first hour of getting in the studio.”
Further describing the meaning behind the lyrics, XMPLA shares “‘Big Kids’ plays on how we never really sleep because there is always something going through our minds. Some of us never really grow up and there is that kid inside all of us that as we get older, tend to suppress but it’s about discovering that and not just letting adult life make you feel like you can’t be yourself or have fun!”

Following last week’s announcement of their sixth studio album A Billion Heartbeats – out September 27 – Mystery Jets have revealed a powerful new video for Screwdriver. The track provides an uncompromising look at the rise of the rebranded alt-right in the UK, built around a powerfully positive message: “Fight them with love / then the world will be ours”.
Lead singer Blaine Harrison says of the song, “Screwdriver is about the mechanics of intolerance… Conflict arises as cultures and belief systems clash, unwilling to accept one another’s place in society, because we are fed the rhetoric that our neighbours are those responsible for our problems: then inevitably nationalism once more raises its ugly head above the parapet. But whereas political agendas fuel divisiveness, music unites and reminds us of all that we have in common. The message of Screwdriver is not a pessimistic one – because perhaps faced with confrontation we can find understanding, and even maybe learn how to listen to, and love one another.”
Flickertail, Sydney’s finest single malt rock and roll export are beyond excited to announce their brand new single, Right Behind The Eyes.
Right Behind The Eyes is a tense, angry, kung-fu kick of a rock and roll song. It opens with the sort of riff that singes eyebrows first and asks questions never, and powers forward for the whole time. No breakdowns, no lengthy atmospheric intros -straight ahead, loud rock and roll.
Frontman Liam Whelan says of the track, ‘This song is about whingers, negative people, who ultimately wind up sad and alone. Our coat of arms has the emu on it because it can never take a step backwards. People are meant to be like that. You can’t move forward if you’re looking over your shoulder, and you can’t get rich looking in anyone else’s pockets. You at least have to reach in to take their wallet.These dudes also tend to treat women pretty horribly, at least in my experience, so this song’s about them.
The funniest bit is when someone thinks I wrote the song about them in particular. I don’t write songs for about individual people, but if you hear lines like “the only thing you’ll pull tonight is gonna be yourself” and think it’s about you, then you desperately need to get your shit together.’
One month out from their highly anticipated national tour to celebrate their new double live album, SUMO 20 LIVE, The Superjesus have today unleashed The Impossible – their kickass new single and wildly hilarious tongue-in-cheek video clip, inspired by conspiracy theories about the 1969 moon landing.
Set for release on September 6, The Impossible is classic Superjesus fare, with head-banging guitars and Sarah Mcleod’s iconic voice. The lyrics are thought-provoking, left of centre, and, in frontwoman Sarah McLeod’s own words, “an unexpected, undeniable banger”! Explaining the inspiration behind the song, McLeod says, “I’m fascinated with moon landing conspiracies. When researching on the net one day I came across a Stanley Kubrick ‘confessional video’. No one knows if the footage is legit or not, but in it, he confesses to staging the moon landing on the set of 2001 A Space Odessey. He called the fiasco his ‘greatest masterpiece’. The confession video was designed to be kept under lock and key, only to be released after his death. Upon further research I found an article with the headline LANDING ON THE MOON IS SCIENTIFICALLY IMPOSSIBLE…and boom, out came the song!”
Matt Corby and Tash Sultana share the official video for their new song Talk It Out. The blissed out soulful anthem is now accompanied with an animated video.
The video was produced by Melbourne animator Andrew Onorato who also worked on animation for Childish Gambino’s video Feels Like Summer. Talk It Out was also the #1 most played song on triple j last week and has already racked up over 2.5millon streams globally.
SAINT ASONIA — featuring vocalist Adam Gontier, guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist Cale Gontier, and drummer Sal Giancarelli — have just dropped The Hunted, the first single from their forthcoming second album and Spinefarm Records debut Flawed Design, due out this fall.
“‘The Hunted’ is a song about struggling to find your place in life,” Gontier said. “It’s a solid representation of the direction Saint Asonia is headed. I’m excited to share this with the world. And it’s an awesome bonus having Sully from Godsmack guesting on it.”
Canadian rock outlaws, The Wild!, turn up the heat with a new single, Playing With Fire. The track follows their Helluva Ride, released in May and is a testament to the band’s dedication to their craft, keeping the flame of their progression alive.
