Polish Club @ Lion Arts Factory, Adelaide 4/7/2019

Polish Club are set for a big second half of the year with their brand new album Iguana and the tour stopped at Lion Arts Factory playing to a full house. The band really do seem to stepping up the size of their shows each tour and with a bigger production this time round making full use of the in-house sound and lighting to full effect. This being my second show at the renovated Lion Arts Factory makes for a much more enjoyable experience now despite it being a tight squeeze with everyone trying to cram in the room.

Even for a Thursday night there was a real party time vibe happening and even in the West End precinct the place was humming. It was a light hearted moment watching the band walk out to Vanessa Amorosi’s Absolutely Everybody and a bit of surprise to see the Polish Club as a three-piece. No doubt it was inevitable that the band would expand their and it really did work for them.

There was no messing about belting through the first three songs off Iguana with We Don’t Care, Iguana and Goddamn! Their sound has a few rough edges which I think adds to the charm. For me, I really dig the tunes off their self-titled EP and it was great to be able to hear Beeping and what was called a love song Don’t Fuck Me Over. Throw in classics Gimme Money, Beat Up and Divided off Alright Already was definitely shaping up to be a memorable show.

The ramshackle cover of MGMT’s Electric Feel was a bit hit and miss for me as was some of the banter between songs. Nevertheless, when you’re able to pull out a single of the calibre of Clarity nothing else matters. To say the crowd went in to hyper drive for this one was an understatement. The encore was a classic, not sure if it was the alcohol talking, but All I Want For Christmas Is You (Mariah Carey) went down a treat giving everyone their fill of rock music.
