Greek Comedian of the Year @ The Howling Owl, Adelaide 6/03/2019

Some people think that the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a movie but for most Greek’s it’s a documentary of their life. Comedian George Zacharopoulos knows too well that that movie was toned down for all the non-Greeks out there! Zacharopoulos talks about all things growing up Greek and what its like to be Greek in his one hour stand up show.

Born in Greece in the village of Kalamata in the Peloponnese, you know its the place of the same name as Kalamata olives but he now resides in Newcastle in the UK. Growing up Greek is a way of life that can’t be fully be explain unless you have lived it but Zacharopoulos does a great job adding his comedic flair to the real life dramas of living in a Greek family.

There’s lots of funny stories like how he was forced as a child to play the accordion. Not exactly the coolest of instruments like a guitar but that’s what happens when you have such a domineering Mother or I should say Greek Mother!

This fast talking Greek comedian gave the young crowd a lesson about Greek life, the Ancient Greeks and maybe a lesson on drugs that could’ve been avoided. In all it was a fun show and in part an education as well to all the non-Greeks.
