undergroundLOVERS New Album

undergroundLOVERS reveal the next bite out of their highly anticipated eighth album Staring At You Staring At Me with new single and video clip ‘The Rerun’. Set for release through long time label partner Rubber Records, Staring At You Staring At Me will be available from May 5th, followed by two intimate launch shows in Melbourne and Sydney.
Featuring the already released singles ‘Conde Nast Trap’ and ‘Unbearable’, Staring At You Staring At Me aptly pays homage to the band’s hometown of Melbourne.
Melbourne has long been the epicentre of indie and progressive music in Australia, and for much of the 1990’s and 2000’s, local band undergroundLOVERS pushed sonic boundaries in a manner that made them cult favourites.
Affectionately known as “The Undies”, their live shows became famous for their signature use of looped sound effects, heavily layered shoegaze guitar rhythms and psychedelic lighting.
Their extensive discography and musical journey has seen a colourful path; from winning the ARIA Award for Best New Artist, to further ARIA nominations; a Triple J Hottest 100 favourite and unforgettable supports for The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and New Order; to their 1992 sophomore album Leaves Me Blind being named as the 54th greatest Australian album in the 2010 published book 100 Best Australian Albums.
Influenced by a mixture of late ‘70s Joy Division and ‘80s pop, the third single from said new album, ‘The Rerun’ sees the undies in a buoyant mood celebrating “Faceless users come undone”. Clearly a reference to either drug addiction, ALP factional politics or the Trumpettes!
Conceived and produced by the dynamic film scholar duo Cristina Alvarez Lopez and Australia’s preeminent film academic Adrian Martin, the complementing video was inspired by lyrics from the song “caught up in love so repetitive”, employing clips from classic Hollywood cinema to explore unrequited love and the rerun of emotions every time we fall in love.
