5 Seconds Of Summer @ Entertainment Centre, Adelaide 4/11/2026
Everyone’s A Star is the mantra for the 5 Seconds Of Summer world tour which the next stop was in Adelaide at Entertainment Centre. If you didn’t feel like a star going in you definitely felt like one on the way. Affectionately known as 5SOS, it has been a long five years for the return of their heroes to Adelaide. With a six thousand strong crowd they made plenty of noise to ensure that there will be a return on the first announcement next time. In that eight years though 5SOS have conquered the world and revered by fans just about everywhere.
There was an abundance of excitement and energy from OG 5SOS fans to those taking in the live experience for the very first time. It was fever pitch from start to end and it’s hard to not get swept up in the excitement of such a show. The whole construct of the show is an interesting one being more of a theatrical account of their story and their career more so than a traditional concert. How this was pieced together was really well done and considered and for someone like myself who isn’t necessarily ofay with the 5SOS story by show’s end I had a comprehensive appreciation of the journey and a new found respect for the trials and tribulations of being in this band.
The show was divided in to seven acts following the band’s journey right from the beginning to the now with The Peak, The Fall, The Yearning, The Breakup, The Rise, The Beginning and ending on The Return. Clever was the mix of archival footage and the dramatised tongue in cheek video segments showing a band that has plenty of self awareness and appreciation of what they achieved but playfully can poke fun and stir the pot with that “boyband” tag.
It was a turbocharged opening act one with some huge arena bangers NOT OK and No.1 Obsession that got hips shaking and feet shuffling. Teeth and Easier carries on in much the same vein. They had their adoring fans in the palm of their hands and just seeing what these songs mean to their fans is extraordinary. So much so that one pregnant fan had to leave as she is was getting reading for an early arrival.
The music was played with clinical precision, no ring ins or guns for hire, the four same likeable larrikins playing their instruments. The production itself was right up there with lighting effects, confetti showers and the video projections making the show equally spectacular visually. Twenty seven songs covered every nook and cranny of their career and with such a tantalizing spread you would be hard pressed finding anyone disappointed with what was served.
I think the The Break Up was the Act that stood out notably for me where each member had a moment in the spot light to collectively celebrate their own solo endeavours as a band starting with Luke Hemming’s Starting Line, Ashton Irwin’s Have U Found What Ur Looking For?, Calum Head’s Don’t Forget You Love Me and Michale Clifford’s enough. It shows the level of respect they have for each other and how ultimately doing their own thing would benefit 5SOS.
The following Acts were equally as compelling with stand outs being “Amnesia”, fan voted via QR code on screen Wrapped Around Your Finger and not forgetting English Love Affair and Jet Black Heart which raised the excite-o-meter by one hundred. She Looks So Perfect would have given the fans their fill before an encore of cataclysmic proportions with the anthemic Everyone’s A Star and their monster global hit Youngblood. Pretty good for a Wednesday night! How was yours!
