The Bamboos Return With New Single “Rockets & Flowers” While Riding High On Viral Success

Cornerstone Melbourne Soul / Funk act, The Bamboos, are back with their first new music since a triumphant 25th anniversary Australian tour in late 2025. Now into their 27th year together the band are not only proving unstoppable but invigorated, with their reliably innovative yet timeless sound.

The song Rockets & Flowers arrives in the middle of a wave of viral success for their 2006 track I Don’t Wanna Stop, which exploded on social media in late 2025 and shows no sign of slowing down. It recently passed one billion plays on TikTok and has similarly huge numbers across Instagram and Youtube. Long a live favourite, there’s been no pattern or trend to the song’s success in how it’s been used, with users simply drawn to an undeniably feel-good sweet Soul tune. The song saw another wave of success earlier in 2026 with a remix from one of Australia’s best Dance acts, Cosmo’s Midnight.

Carried by an irresistible horn riff, Rockets & Flowers is similarly about holding onto a feeling of invigoration, no matter at what stage of life you find yourself.

“I don’t need saving, I want something amazing”.

The song is yet another gem from guitarist / band-leader Lance Ferguson and vocalist Kylie Auldist, who have become one of Australia’s most treasured songwriting partnerships.

“Writing songs with Kylie Auldist remains one of the most fulfilling, fun and meaningful experiences that I’ve had in all of my time in music” says Ferguson. “It’s a relationship and friendship that I cherish.”

The song was recorded with Ferguson’s longtime recording partner-in-arms, John Castle, who has now worked on every Bamboos release as well as with the likes of Alex Lahey, Vance Joy, Angus & Julia Stone, Jack River and Cub Sport. This time however the band travelled down to his recently relocated home studio in Launceston, Tasmania.

It’s high time for new Bamboos music to follow on from their 2023 album This Is How You Do It, which saw them return to for their first European and UK tour in over ten years and culminated with two sold our shows at London’s iconic Jazz Café.
