Kool & The Gang + Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary Announce Co-Headline Australian Tour
Finely Tuned announces that two soul and funk icons in their own right, Kool & The Gang and Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary, will embark on a joint Australian tour hitting iconic venues in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth this November & December.
An unmissable chance to experience two generational acts live in one evening, the tour kicks off at Brisbane/Magandjin’s Fortitude Music Hall on Thursday 26 November, before hitting Sydney/Eora’s Tumbalong Park on Friday 27 November as part of Finely Tuned’s stacked FORMA Open-Air program. They’ll then venture to Melbourne/Naarm’s Festival Hall on Saturday 28 November, Adelaide/Tarntanya’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Monday 30 November and conclude in Perth/Boorloo’s Ice Cream Factory on Wednesday 2 December.
American R&B and funk group Kool & The Gang formed in Jersey City, New Jersey in the 1960s, featuring brothers Robert “Kool” Bell and Ronald Bell, and released their debut album in 1969. Their generational catalogue features hits like Jungle Boogie, Ladies’ Night and their Billboard Hot 100 number-one single and Grammy Hall of Fame inductee, Celebration. Their unique fusions of jazz, funk and pop have proved to stand the test of time – from soundtracking the opening of Pulp Fiction, to becoming the most sampled R&B act of all time, embedded in iconic songs from Madonna, Erykah Badu, Jhené Aiko, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Nas, The Prodigy, Aaliyah, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan and many more. Alongside becoming two-time Grammy Award winners, seven-time American Music Award winners, 2018 Songwriters Hall of Fame and 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Kool & The Gang are one of the most prolific R&B groups in music history.
Joining them on the double-bill is R&B and disco icon act, Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary. Led by founding sister Debbie Sledge, joined by the next generation of the family – Camille, David and Thaddeus Sledge, and Tanya Ti-et, the group come to Australian shores with a live set of multi-platinum hits like He’s the Greatest Dancer, Thinking of You, Lost in Music and Grammy Hall of Fame inductee We Are Family. Originally formed in Philadelphia in 1965, the vocal group came to stardom at the height of the 1970s disco era, releasing now genre-defining records including Together and We Are Family.
The tour is presented by Finely Tuned, who this year celebrate two decades of delivering culture-shaping live music experiences. In their next chapter, this legendary tour marks the agency’s biggest tour to date.
