Ball Park Music, Sunsick Daisy, Molly Rocket @ The Gov, Adelaide 31/5/2026
There is an affinity between Ball Park Music and Adelaide that is so strong that it is unbreakable. Their gig to a full house at The Gov was definitely the pick of the bunch over the weekend highlighting that they are well and truly at the top of their game. It wasn’t that long since they were last here playing in the ‘burbs at A Day In The Gully but that didn’t stop this one from being a sell out in almost record time. So yeah, there is something in the name tour The Rock and Roll Adventure Continues.
The first of the Adelaide contingent supporting was the much-underrated Molly Rocket. I think they are literally one song away getting the attention they deserve. Great for them to be playing in front of a big and much receptive crowd. Looking casual about it they really do look right at home on the main stage at The Gov. Set closer Buzzbox was an absolute ripper.
Sunsick Daisy are growing in stature as a band who are clearly on the rise showing plenty of upside. Relishing the opportunity to support Ball Park Music again they kept the energy and collective spirits up with their brand of shoegaze rock packed full of rich harmonies. It’s Alright, Pale Blue and Waiting For were great moments but the priceless moment was Sarah Grainger talking about having their artwork stolen for Over & Over inspired by her “dead cat”. Not macabre in any way! Finishing their set on What Now both Adelaide bands can say they flew the Adelaide flag proudly.
“Are you ready to have the best fucking night of your life?” proclaimed front man Sam Cromack setting the scene for Ball Park Music to enter from stage left.
With an emphatic response from this full house it was a barnstorming opening with She Only Loves Me When I’m There followed by Frank. The meaning behind the tour name was explained honouring their late tour manager Greg Weaver dedicating Stars In My Eyes which took on even greater meaning. That heartfelt vibe continued in Exactly How You Are.
The crowd was “polite” with Cromack encouraging the faithful to be naughty if they want to describing the week as an “abstract concept” being a Sunday night and “be proper psychos of Adelaide”. There was acknowledgement of cricketing injury to guitarist Dean Hanson who was chair bound which was the perfect lead in to Nothing Ever Goes My Way. The set list was loaded with great tunes including Coming Down, Cost Of Lifestyle for the OG Ball Park Music fans and the solo acoustic Like Love by Cromack.
Taking a deep dive “looksie” at their back catalogue The End Times got a 2026 touch up. Cromack was up for a party even suggesting that “science has proven that Monday is the best day to be hungover” then playing the first song they ever played in All I Want Is You followed an unreleased exclusive which “fuckin’ slaps” in The New Me Starts Tomorrow. Finishing in a blaze of glory with It’s Nice To Be Alive, Cherub and Please Don’t Move To Melbourne.
Returning for an encore killing it with Alligator and Everything Is Shit Except My Friendship With You there was an added bonus for someone who yelled out for it earlier and how could they not play Trippin’ the Light Fantastic featuring some SA references in it. Terrific show by a band who are in red hot form right now.
