Angus & Julia Stone Announce Forthcoming Album Karaoke Bar, With Title Track Out Now

One of Australia’s most beloved sibling duos, Angus & Julia Stone, release their new single Karaoke Bar, alongside news of their forthcoming seventh studio album of the same name, set for release on September 4 via Virgin Music. Marking the beginning of a new chapter for the acclaimed duo, Karaoke Bar offers the first glimpse into a record that leans into joy, connection, and a sense of shared experience. Written while travelling abroad, the track captures the warmth of a night out, where music dissolves the strangeness between strangers, and something more human can unfold.

The Karaoke Bar single was born on the Greek island of Hydra, just steps from Leonard Cohen’s former home. Between late-night writing sessions and days spent by the water, Angus and Julia tapped into a creative energy that would come to define the album.

“It was a magical time on one of the strangest and most beautiful islands we’ve ever been to,” Angus recalls. Julia adds, speaking to the single, “A night out at a karaoke bar can hold so much goodness… that’s what the song is about. Everyone has the chance to be heard. And it’s so often more than that, a moment of real connection. We’re together, singing with a roomful of strangers, and the things that normally separate us, fall away.”

Karaoke Bar sees Angus & Julia Stone continuing to evolve their approach to songwriting, recording, and production. Created across multiple locations, including Greece, France, and Australia, the album carries with it the spirit of the places, people, and moments that shaped it – a vibrant and expansive body of work that balances intimacy with a sense of scale.

Angus & Julia Stone’s music has long existed on its own dreamy wavelength, shaped by the unique creative bond between brother and sister. Since the release of their debut EP Chocolates and Cigarettes and breakthrough album A Book Like This in 2007, the duo have built a globally revered catalogue. Their sophomore album Down the Way marked a defining moment – debuting at number one in Australia, earning five ARIA Awards, and producing the era-defining single Big Jet Plane.

Subsequent releases have only expanded their reach, from the Rick Rubin-produced Angus & Julia Stone to the self-crafted Snow, and the ARIA Award-winning soundtrack Life Is Strange. Their most recent album, Cape Forestier (2024), saw the pair return to Angus’s Sugarcane Mountain Studios before embarking on a global tour of sold-out theatres, including London’s Royal Albert Hall, Paris’ L’Olympia, and New York’s Town Hall.

With Karaoke Bar, Angus & Julia Stone once again invite listeners into their world, one shaped by instinct, connection, and a deep love of storytelling.
