The Gnomes Release ‘MAGIC MAN’
Melbourne’s fast-rising garage-pop four-piece The Gnomes return with Magic Man, a punchy, hook-loaded new single out now — the first taste of their forthcoming four-track EP More.
The More EP will officially launch on 13 May, just ahead of The Gnomes’ debut UK/EU tour in May, including multiple appearances at The Great Escape and dates across Manchester, Glasgow and London — including an instore at Third Man Records — before wrapping at Sniester Festival in the Netherlands.
The Gnomes will return to Melbourne after their UK Tour for an official More EP launch party at The Night Cat on 20 June — their biggest hometown show to date — before joining Spiderbait on their national tour.
Frontman Jay Miller says of Magic Man:
“Magic Man is about this old man who lives next door to me who I’ve always known as The Wizard because I never knew his real name. However in the music video, the Magic Man is played by our friend Stu Anderson, who owns Singing Bird Studios in Frankston where we recorded the EP. He’s a legend of the local scene. We dragged him out to The You Yangs mountain ranges to shoot the clip, and he was coming off of a massive bender at the time. It was the perfect vibe, he smashed it.”
The Gnomes are Jay Millar (guitar/vocals), Ned Capp (guitar), Olly Katsianis (bass) and Ethan Robins (drum). While Jay is just 19 and his bandmates are just barely out of their teens, The Gnomes have emerged as one of Australia’s most exciting new guitar bands — blending ‘60s beat, garage rock and left-of-centre power pop with a fresh, instinctive energy.
Their self-titled debut (Nov 2025) made an immediate impact with international music press, earning 4-star reviews in Mojo, Shindig! and Vive Le Rock, alongside coverage from Creem (US) and OX Magazine (GER), and a place in Raven Sings The Blues’ 25 Best Albums of 2025. Locally, the record was named 3RRR Album of the Week, while The Age tipped the band among its 25 Best New Aussie Artists of 2025.
What started as a teenage Bandcamp project from frontman Jay has rapidly snowballed into a band with genuine international pull — from viral support (67k streams) via Spanish tastemaker channel Tremendo Garaja, to sold-out Australian headline runs (1,500+ tickets across NSW/VIC in early 2026), major festival slots including Golden Plains and Luliepalooza, and a recent support with Viagra Boys at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion.
With driving guitars, punk harmonies and undeniable hooks, new single Magic Man captures the young band in full flight — a water-tight rock and roll act playing music you can dance to, built for good times and absolutely killer live.
