Archspire Are Set To Rock Froth & Fury
‘We made a video recently to promote the Froth and Fury Festival dates that were going to be on, which were very, very excited to play with a bunch of really awesome bands there. We were discussing how we were going to do a promo video for it. Oli says ‘what if we think it’s froth and furry. So, we’re like, oh, that’s cool. So, we’re all on Zoom and I’m on my Amazon account…. oh my God, my Amazon account is now ruined. I need to start a new one.’
I’ll stop that conversation there. Let’s just say, Archspire created one of the funniest, and soon the best legendary festival shout outs I’ve ever witnessed. However, as guitarist Dean Lamb explains, that’s exactly who they are.
‘We like to get together and make dumb things and we go through all that kind of stuff the same way we go through music. Let’s make it better. Let’s make more fun ideas. Let’s put all the ideas out and really find the best one. And who cares who comes up with it as long as we have it. One thing that’s really great about being in a band with a guy like Oli, not only is he a great vocalist, he’s also just one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. He just combines things in his brain in a way, he’ll take one word and then another word and put it into his brain and it’s like a rock tumbler of creativity. He comes out, I’m like, how the hell did I not come up with? That’s so obvious and it’s so stupid and simple. So, it’s really fun. We’ve been in the band since 2009 and that’s how it’s always worked and it’s still so much fun. I’m thirty eight now and I don’t imagine doing much of anything else with my life other than doing dumb stuff.’
Dean and lads will be in Australia on their own tour in January pieced around the Froth & Fury Festival. For keen followers of the band, who are fully aware of the band’s humorous posts, they will also know there is new music on its way, all part of the band crowdfunding campaign last year.
‘I will say that by the time that we’re there in January, we might have new music out. So, you might be able to hear new music, which is very exciting for us. We’re doing the whole album independently. We recently did a Kickstarter in 2025 where we raised almost $400,000 Canadian and that was our first foray since 2009 to independently release an album. The whole thing has been, it’s a lot of work trying to figure out how distribution works, how you got to have all this cash upfront to pay for huge expenses, how to order vinyl, all that kind of stuff. It’s been a very fun, fulfilling journey and we’ve really liked doing it, which is to say that I believe we’ll have new music out by then!’
I then asked Dean what you can expect from the Archspire shows. I was not expecting this answer. Strap in for a roller-coaster of a story.
‘So, you might hear new music, which we’re very excited about. We also…there’s a really stupid thing that’s actually going to happen. We’re going to be doing VIP meet and greets and in the past we’ve done VIP meet and greets where we turn the whole thing into basically a game show. It’s an hour long game show where you have prizes, you have trivia, you have lots of interaction. We sign stuff, we take photos. Last tour we had everybody participate and do crowd vocals, gang vocals for a song on the upcoming album. And all those vocals made it into the album, which was very cool. So, we love to do stuff like that.’
‘I would love to do some kind of music video involving some people at the show and put it together after the tour. A lot of things like that. We don’t really know because a lot of the times you come up with fun stuff in the hotel the night before. If we can bring all the publicly safe things from backstage, then it just becomes more fun and it allows the audience to become part of the joke and in on the whole thing. That’s why people like music and enjoy bands in the first place anyway. They want to be a part of a thing. So, we understand that.’
‘In the past we played Twister with the audience. We have these big custom made Twister mats that are the size of four regular Twister mats and we spent so much money on them and we’re like, what are we doing? So that was fun. I don’t know if we’ll do that again. Maybe we will. We’ve been talking about it the last few days. Maybe we’ll switch up board games, maybe we’ll play Clue with the audience. Oli has this great idea, and maybe this is unfair of me to say this because he really wants to do it, but I cannot see us doing it, so I’m just going to throw it out there. He wants to do something called the Wall of Wedding where you spread the room apart, you go split this pit up, tough guy kind of stuff. Then you have a couple that gets married as they come down the middle of the separated room. I’m like, dude, the logistics of that make no sense. What do you get? Hire actors for people that are going to get married? He’s like, no, no, no. We can hire people that are in the crowd. I’m like, are you out of here? I don’t even know what you’re talking about. So that’s what I’m up against. So, I don’t really know what you can expect, but it’ll be fun.’
Wow! New album, wild crowd participation and that’s just for Australia. Further down the line, the band are not stopping.
‘We actually have some music videos coming up. We’re in the middle of planning our most ambitious music video ever right now, and we’ve decided to produce them all ourselves. We have now finished editing one of them, it’s going to be the first single on the album. I don’t know what date it’s going to come out, but we spent months working, I think there was one hundred and twenty three narrative shots in the video and every single one is like a second long. Every single one has to be fun and engaging and exciting and it’s all based on Oli’s idea. So that’s the ultimate example of Oli has an idea and then I go, how the hell are we actually going to do that? And then we spend months working on it together. What we came up with is really fun and we’re going to do it again.’
