Australian Idol Marshall Hamburger On His Debut Adelaide Headline Show

Search For A Star is back in Adelaide this October at the Futures Events Centre in Paradise. Search For A Star was created by Tony Rocca and Teresa Bruno for South Australian artists to showcase their talent and raise money for charity. It will be a night of exception South Australian talent with support going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Recently crowned Australian Idol winner Marshall Hamburger is making his debut in Adelaide headlining the event and he answered some questions for Hi Fi Way about the event and how winning idol has helped his career.

How exciting that you are headlining the Search For A Star Grand Finale. Can you tell us how it feels to be a part of Search For A Star?
It is incredibly exciting! It’s so cool to be on the other side of a big talent show. It’s going to be an honour to see some of the new emerging talent in Adelaide.

How important is a talent competition like Search For A Star to kickstart the careers for Adelaide artists?
I think the best part of talent competitions such as Search For A Star is the exposure you get from industry professionals and the general public. It’s an awesome opportunity to get in people’s faces and show them what you’re all about!

You’re bringing your eight-piece band for the Grand Finale appearance. What is it like to play with such talented musicians?
It’s awesome! It makes my job so easy when I know that all the musicians know what’s going on and are locked in. We also have little jams in soundcheck, it’s so fun.

Can you tell us some of the artists that will be performing at Search For A Star?
There’s a whole bunch of really cool artists performing at the Grand Finale! Some artists that I have seen are the Just Thinking Band, Jack Wylde, Martina Douglass, and Gracie Deco with the singing puppet!

You were the newly crowned 2025 Australian Idol, how did you feel when that happened?
It was crazy! I remember standing on that stage, and my heart was just beating out of my chest. It felt like the craziest moment in my life up to that point, almost like a dream!

Has life changed much since the win?
Life has definitely changed since Idol! A lot of doors have opened up for me that weren’t open before, and I’ve definitely been a lot busier. I’ve been doing a lot of researching and planning too, specifically regarding song releases, as I’ve got some original music on the way very soon!

I was lucky enough to dance on stage with Leo Sayer at a Chic/Nile Rodgers concert, and he’s such a lovely guy. How did it feel to sing with him his hit song You Make Me Feel Like Dancing?
Leo Sayer is just the nicest guy on the planet! I remember when I met him for the first time in the Sydney Coliseum, he had so much energy and passion. He was just brimming with positivity, and I think that translated into the performance as well. He’s such a fun person to work with, and I have the utmost respect for him.

What advice would you give to those artists performing in the Search For A Star Grand Finale?
I’d say remember to take a moment to relax! It can be easy to get swept up in the glitz and glamour of a finale show and forget to take a moment to breathe before you perform. You want to give it your absolute best, so remember to relax and have fun! At the end of the day, performing is truly about bringing people joy and experiencing joy. So have the best time on that stage!
