The Superjesus, Fridge Junkies @ Bridgeway Live, Pooraka SA 5/7/2025

This show was definitely a moment of triumph for The Superjesus with all the toil and hard work of the last couple of years paying off in a big way. Having climbed back to the top of the mountain the band can celebrate a job well done with this tour right up there as one of their very best. On top of that there is brand new music delivering their first new album in twenty years which Adelaide fans were treated to and was really well received. The heart and soul of the band is Sarah McLeod and Stuart Ruddy (‘Ruddy’) but the addition of Cameron Blokland (guitar) and Ben Todd (drums) has given them a new lease of live.

It has been a while since I’ve been to The Bridgeway but the Saturday night vibe was awesome with a huge crowd turning out in droves to celebrate the release of their self-titled album. It is a ballsy move to play the new album in full, even Sarah described it as “rock ‘n roll suicide,” but one that paid off in spades.

First up was Adelaide band Fridge Junkies and I have to ask the question where have these guys been hiding? They might of been a relatively unknown until now but winning a competition to land this coveted support slot is just the beginning for this band and I’m issuing a red alert to keep an eye out of this band because without a shadow of a doubt we will be hearing a lot more from this band. They make all the right noises and there is plenty to like.

One thing for certain is we known that The Superjesus give one hundred percent leaving nothing on the table when it comes to playing live. There might not have been any surprises with the first part of the set list playing the new album in full but the way it was mixed up worked well live. Straight out of the blocks with Starlight and Romance it was Sarah who said “welcome friends, we are The Superjesus”. Asking fans to hold the arms in the air trying to creating a stadium vibe that was “really bitchin'” it was another winner in We Won’t Let Go Until It’s Over. Their enthusiasm was infectious wanting it to “breed off us and on to you”. The crowd could feel it and the band walked five foot taller.

Every song on this album has the potential to be a set staple in time and they might have to start playing for two to three hours to fit everything in. The anthemic Money (We’re Only In It For Love) and Diamonds was ace and even Sarah’s personal fav Loneliness Is The New Black was packed full of charm. Powering through Something Good, Gangbusters and Lights Out it was set closer Generation X cover Dancing With Myself that got hips shaking. With a short break it was the Peaches tune Rock Show blaring over the PA that set the tone for the band’s return and charging out with purpose to play a greatest hits set. Hot damn! This was absolutely electric smashing out Ashes, Down Again, Now And Then, the classic Shut My Eyes and topped off with a crowd sing-a-long ( “a bit like Row, Row, Row Your Boat but way cooler”) on Gravity to complete an awesome Saturday night. Great show! Well played! Really looking forward to the next move for The Superjesus.
