Feeder, Sunsick Daisy @ Lion Arts Factory, Adelaide 6/4/2025
Adelaide was really pumping for live music being well and truly spoilt for choice with so many options to choose from. For me it was extremely hard to go past Feeder. Elite! Hells bells they were brilliant and to be seeing them in such intimate surrounds is a real feather in the cap for Adelaide fans. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and that can be said for these Welsh rockers who were last here fourteen years for Soundwave. If money was no object I would follow this band around the country they are that good playing a flawless ninety minute set covering all the classics plus some new gems for good measure.
Adelaide locals Sunsick Daisy tried valiantly to rev up the crowd that was building with their brand of shoegaze and indie rock. It was clear who the crowd were there to see. Nevertheless, Sunsick Daisy are building in confidence and have plenty of tricks in the kit bag. They were energetic and lively looking genuinely excited to be supporting one of their favourite bands. It was really hard to understand their banter except for the comment about supporting your drummer campaign to pay for a parking fine in Melbourne the previous weekend. Set highlights included Out Of Order, Bite My Tongue and It Will Be Alright.
When the lights dropped the word Feeder was emblazoned on the screen and this fiercely loyal crowd gave them a heroes like welcome back to Adelaide cheer as they walked on to the intro Droids. It isn’t until you experience a show like this where you can truly appreciate how exceptional this band is and with a seventeen song set list there were just as many left out proving how deep their song list goes. ELF was a barnstorming opener which continued through Kyoto. Singer and guitarist Grant Nicholas opening comments was “Adelaide have you missed us?” There was a resounding cheer in the affirmative with Nicholas asking to hear everyone’s voices.
Feeling A Moment was epic! There is no other words to describe this majestic beauty. The crowd clapped along to Come Back Around. Big tick for Insomnia followed by another big single by way of Just The Way I’m Feeling. Fear Of Flying and Pushing The Senses were big moments in the set. Nicholas spoke of jet lag which you would of hardly noticed extending the conversation to the anniversary of Comfort In Sound which they are touring in the UK later this year and a hint that they might tour that here in Australia. Hey You and Playing With Fire from the Black/Red album were top inclusions in a already loaded set list.
Keeping with relatively new music a couple of rippers from the 2022 album Torpedo featured prominently with When It All Breaks Down and the title track from that album, both packed full of song writing smarts. Nicholas took a moment to reflect about missing the days of mosh pits having seen some Limp Bizkit videos describing it as “proper mad!” The main set finished in a blaze of glory pulling out all stops playing a “partial” US radio hit in High topped off by the highly infectious sing-a-long vibe of Buck Rogers which really got the crowd going.
Right now, we were thinking how the hell will they top that? Well, they well and truly smashed it out of the ball park with another chart smash Seven Days In The Sun finishing on another crowd favourite Just A Day. The crowd really made this one, singing and dancing with the real shame being with the show coming to an end. Seriously great show and a tour not to miss.
