Charlie Bedford On New Single ‘Daydream’

Jam-packed with charisma and summery tones, the new single Daydream out now from Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist Charlie Bedford sparkles with upbeat instrumentation set against frank lyricism. Also marking the first taste of this exciting artist’s new album due out in early 2025, Daydream finds Bedford expanding his blues roots further into upbeat indie rock territory. Charlie gives Hi Fi Way some insight to the new single.

How has the build-up been leading up to the release of Daydream?
It’s been very exciting & quite intense! Lots of organising, planning & decision making. I’m thrilled to have this track out in the world!

Was the process of making your single as challenging as you thought?
Making the single wasn’t too challenging – it was very enjoyable! The process I find challenging is more to do with the release & media etc, I see most artists feeling a similar way.

Sonically, how would you describe your music?
Upbeat, fun & punchy! I always try to make it sonically fun or interesting.

Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
It’s extremely hard for me to narrow it down to one person or group but, I’d have to say overall the Aussie indie pop rock band called “Custard” would be my biggest influence. It doesn’t matter if I’m playing blues, soul, techno or reggae, the Custard influence always creeps in. I grew up with their music & have always loved it. I recently had the privilege of performing & recording with them, it’s like a childhood dream come true haha!

Best piece of advice you have been given?
“Write songs, write some more songs & when you’re sick of writing songs, write some more songs” advice from Russell Morris. OR: “Let it out, get it out” advice from Dave Graney.

What is the “Charlie Bedford” life story?
I haven’t finished living yet so I can’t tell you! I’m still working on this one. BUT I asked “AI” to see what it thought my life story was & it said this: “As of my last knowledge update in October 2021, Charlie Bedford is not a widely recognized public figure or historical character, and therefore there is no established life story associated with that name. It is possible that new information or a notable person named Charlie Bedford has emerged since then.”

Are you looking to tour more broadly?
Always! I love travelling & meeting new people + having new experiences & sharing my music. If you want me to come to your town or have a backyard concert or anything just reach out, I’d love to make it happen.

What’s next for you?
More music! A couple more singles, then my new album due for release in Feb 2025! Writing always & continuing the never ending tour. Some band shows in the new year too, I’m very excited to get that going!

Who’s your favourite Adelaide artist/group at the moment?
At the moment my favourite Adelaide artist would have to be an awesome duo called “Suedan”. I met Sue and Dan at the Port Noarlunga Blues Festival 2024 a few weeks ago, their music is fun & they are seriously lovely top notch people. Go see them!
